Yeah, it's a common mistake. The plural of bonus is bonuses. Typically, in latin, plurals that have the ending changed to 'i' are those that end in "ius", not "us". Hence the plural of octopus is octopuses, not octopi as it commonly used. In common english, either is generally acceptable and nobody gives half a **** what you use.
I'm very much in favour of personal spellings, though. If I use a word that sounds right, conveys the meaning it should to the target reader but isn't in the dictionary, it's a word and it's the right word to use. Language is about communication, not exactism. There we go, "exactism" isn't a word but you get the meaning from it, right?

You need to read up on Latin, methinks. The nominative plural for all second declension -us words is -i, whether they end in -us or -ius.

Anyway, boni is correct, bonuses it more common (because we generally find 'modern' pluralisation more comfortable than the correct latin versions).

hehe. It's nice to hear of an incorrect plural when someone has tried to hard, as opposed to just being lazy with the english language.
The most commonly cunfused plural is of course of the word 'mouse'. The plural 'mice' actually only refers to the living creature. Not a lot of people remember that the correct plural when describing the computer mouse, is, in fact 'mouses' -- Olenir Theadorvin, Director, Cygnus United. Best point of the thread.
Bonus in latin is exclusively an adjective. In modern english usage it is often a noun.

I take your octopuses and raise you an octopodes; its a derivation of the greek oktpous. (Mark Kermode > Chuck Noris ;) )
Being dyslexic I'ld like to agree about personal spellings, only as long as it actually comunicates the idea but some of my fellow dyslexics can turn words into unreadable convolutions of themselves in a few sentences.
If you have more than one bonus then you have bonuses. However, who cares?

I know I know it's Germanic and from the Indo-European family, however, mind you, we're still using a Latin alphabet so I'd assume Latin has had a fair share of bricks in the house of English..

That's because English is the most simplistic of languages, hence its popularity as the world's de facto (look! Latin! <--) international language. Just because words like virus have been adopted in English and given an english plural form, doesn't mean that that's what it always was. By the way, here's a nice narative on what the correct plural form of virus might be Granted, bonus doesn't have a plural form in Latin, but I suspect that the term was used tongue-in-cheek by the Devs

It's like virus, the plural is viruses, not viri. I've never seen "boni" before.
Language is fluid and changeable. It becomes what is used, not what should be used.
In biology the word virii (yes, with 2 i's) is commonly used but in IT the plural viruses is more commonly used. Neither is wrong, neither is exclusive, both are used.
However, back to the original point, the word boni is not one I have ever seen or heard used anywhere else. I have *always* heard/read the plural to be bonuses which would mean that using boni is much less likely to lead to you being understood than if bonuses had been used.
Which is the point of language, yes? Understanding
