I have a buddy that I would like to give my full Caracal setup to.
I don't know his skills and if he can technically operate what I have but that won't change whether I do or not.
Let's say I do:
1. Can I place the fully populated ship into escrow?
2. If I do, will the modules just be offline if he doesn't have the fitting capabilities and/or skills?
3. The insurance will be lost in the transfer, I take it?

1) yeppy
2) all the modules will be unfitted, so he has to activae the ship and fit them into it
3) dunno.. i think no, since you never repackage the ship it should be fine

Unfitted, meaning they will just be separate items in his personal hangar and not even on the ship?

Edited by: Kery Nysell on 13/03/2006 19:51:39 If I remember it right (been a while since I escrowed ships), you need to repackage the ship to put it in escrow ... and that would scrap the insurance ...
You can "trade" him the ship tough, you have to both be in the same station, and you in another ship/shuttle, and then the modules will stay fitted and the insurance will continue ...
But if your friend gets the ship destroyed, he'll only get a "basic" insurance, not the one you took for the ship, since he's not the "insurance taker".
There's a way around that with "corp insurance", but it's another story

Insurance will be cancelled, part of the policy says "while you own" the ship.
Will probably have to escro seperately.
Why don't you meet him in the same station and just trade him everything?

Thanks AGAIN, Ker
If I trade him in the same station, that means that he would be stuck with basic insurance since upgrading insurance is not an option?

Yup, that's what happened to a friend of mine to whom I loaned a ship (a mining Osprey with a Platinum insurance).
He went a bit too far in lowsec, got destroyed by NPCs in a belt, and only received the "basic" insurance, just like when you loose an un-insured ship.
I don't know if someone can take an insurance for a ship already insured by someone else ...

You only insure the ship for your use. So if he loses it he wil get a basic payout. You can insure your ships for your corpmembers by having it in a corp hanger and insuring it for corp using corp funds, that way any corp member can use it and if destroyed, insurance will be transfered to corp wallet. .....

Not true, you can escrow the full ship with the modules in it. The Modules will be unfitted though. IF you repackage your ship then yes the insurance will be unvalid.

Bah - answers leading to more questions
If I repackage it and TRADE it to him in the hangar, will he then be able to get Platinum insurance for it?
I'm trying to figure out the most economical way to do this, if you couldn't tell - keeping in mind that I'm sure he will get the ship destroyed at some point.

No, if he's flying it when it blows up, the insurance won't pay. UNLESS it was corp insured [edit - and he's in the same corp as you]. ---

Erm, repackaging a ship voids the insurance, it would be "fresh" when re-assembled, and could take a new insurance.

I escrow stuff to my alts all the time. You can escrow fully built ships. Modules become unfitted upon receipt. Insurance is non transferable and in order to put new insurance on the ship you'll have to repackage it anyway.
