Have replaced the standard windows XP standard boot screen with something a little more zing. Only problem is that it is displaying in 256 colors, have yet to find a way to change it. Anyone know how to change this? Beware the Spoons |

Edited by: Gun Kata on 09/09/2003 12:17:50 I don't think you can change the boot logo colour depth higher than it is because the video card driver has not yet loaded which keeps you in VGA mode (I think - correct me if im wrong!) until the OS is loaded.

Ive noticed with acouple other computers that they boot in a reasonably good color resolution. Have no idea how they did it, anyone know of any programs that are good at this task? Ive already tried bootXP and it doesnt work. Beware the Spoons |

Hmm... Try using BootXP or something... It's easy and fast... 256colours are not the limit... it's just that the cuztom boots you find cant find the driver incorperated in the exe file... so it uses vga... thats why ;) I am the best, so I'm gonna mine the Rest

During that stage of booting, Windows hasn't loaded proper drivers for you graphics card and is simply using the default interface provided (I believe) by the BIOS. 256 colours is the limit of that interface. Any boot screens you've seen that /look/ like there's more colour depth are probably just images that make clever use of dithering or something.

The screens that you have seen that are pretty etc, are typically designed in 256 colors and have not had thier color reduced. To my knowledge, there is no way to have a higher color depth than 256 for the reasons listed above, mainly your vid card being stuck in default VGA mode at the time of boot. Sorry m8.. you appear to be SOL. ------------------------------ No sig is a good sig. ------------------------------ |
