actually, i don't think i did. in this manner, you can draw a parallel between almost anything. it's like finding a legal loophole in the judicial system and getting away with murder. you can draw the parallel if you connect enough points, but how far have you deviated from the path of truth in the process?
sure, you can say that a miner selling minerals is undercutting another seller but is that really what was in the persons mind that was selling it? or perhaps did they just want to get the stuff off their hands because they needed quick money? or maybe they are new enough to not know about the advanced options for selling items? the list goes on..
what i'm trying to say is, you can't generalize someones actions and try to state that they are pvp'ing because you see their actions as competitive. in that manner, everyone everywhere is pvping all the time, and that idea just desensitizes the entire system.
fact is, you can NEVER truly tell a persons' true intentions. in the combat role it becomes a bit easier since once a person fires on you, it becomes apparent their intentions are at the very least to kill you. but in a non-aggressive role, the rules are just not the same. it's an entirely different system..and that is one thing that makes Eve truly dynamic and able to cater to many different play styles..
That's the problem with balancing this truly. 'Fair' balancing (which wouldnt result in what the average player would dub fair gameplay) would be done based on intention. Since this is not possible, one protects where the intention is nto valid, and leaves free where it is. But, exceptions always screw up your perfect score with this kind of balancing.
However, competitiveness isn't based on intention imo. Wether you have the intention to or not when you place the sell order, you are competing, and thus part of the system, and thus should be open to be affected by the whole of the system.
That's what thsi whole discussion is about. Wether or not to allow people to opt out of the system whenever they want, and only for those parts they want (combat in this case).
My answer is definately no. The game is the system, and opting out should not be an option open to anyone but a new player.
