i know ccp wants to shove down our throats the backstory, but can't they do it with a little taste.

hmmm, i belive your missing the point. Why bother with random events. I take it with the most recent event, they expect us mimitar to be mad. sure, great, but can I do jack s*** about it if I want to roleplay along with the event. sure as hell not in concord space...do u see where I'm coming from?? most likely not from your post...
and yes, i could come up with better content.

I kind of find it funny when people get all offended by content that's released in a game. Oh no, these pixellated children were murdered!!
I guess you didn't play Doom when it came out because it was full of Demons and Imps and it was the Devil's game too huh? Your mommy didn't agree?
This game is not intended for children. If you get offended by the storyline, then go read a book.

A lot of people here aren't getting the original posters point. For one he's saying that the story is typical and lacks some more creative endeavour, not that he's offended that they're killing kids. Secondly, the story is completely irrelevant in terms of roleplaying, because you simply can't do anything about it it's just crap that CCP is coming up with because it's easy to do.

I'm sure it's leading up to something. If they weren't going to carry it out into a game event, why would they even bother "just coming up with it." If they were looking for the easy way out, they wouldn't post the info in the first place.
Maybe you should take off the "flame CCP at every possible opportunity" shorts you're wearing and be a little more patient you wad.

I'd like to think EVE isn't a ***** MMORPG like EnB with purely socially acceptable content in it. I always pictured this as a more dark, gritty universe. That's the general feel the game conveys. Lets not sugar coat it.

I wholeheartedly agree. I for one appreciate the fact that a company like CCP has the balls to put out "potentially offensive" content into their games, because it caters to people who are actually mature enough to know that this is a fantasy setting and that they know how to differentiate.
As for the recent news events tying in together, absolutely! Take a look at what's going on with the emperor, (a new book is published and blam! he's now missing, and conspiracy theories abound), and take a look at what happens immediately after he's "missing". Some children get slaughtered.
Sounds to me like there's a power struggle going on higher up, and that will mean a more continuous storyline for us to enjoy.
I say kudos to CCP for giving us this kind of content and to let our imaginations run with it. After all, what fun is a game without your own imagination thrown in? I'd like to believe that my character in Eve is playing out his part in a movie that's being produced, solely in the world of eve.

Threatening of children is a VERY common tactic amoung story tellers to get the audience emotionally invested. The harming of children sparks an instinctive emotional response in 99.99% of the human population wheather if they admit it or not.
Check out any Steven Spielberg movie, or even the "Two Towers" (kids in the caves of helms deep). Its a sure-fire way to get people interested. But hey, I'm a sucker too, so lets see where they go with this one! I smell an Amarrian civil war coming.  Maybe we can even participate! (doubt it)

Actually these little children you whine about were all pregnant females being taken to the planet Abortia to have forced abortions.
One of the slaves carried the baby of emperor Heiderain VII.
In order to get rid of any heir Heiderain himself pushed the button to have the slaves killed.
The slaves are a lot better off now that they are dead. After years of hard labor and much abuse at the lustful hands of their evil masters.
Being turned into a crispy critter is not a bad way to go considering the life they lived.
There feel better now.

ha ha, after reading all the responses, i have to say I'm pretty disappointed in how dense most of the repliers are. always looking for the "easy" flame i guess, without trying to understand the fundamental idea.
Xanthos, is the only one who actually got the point.
oh well, blind to anything fanboys are required for any mmorpg. I like the game as much as the next guy, but does not mean you can not be critical of the game.

not really offended. there is a way to create a backstory with more "taste", something that requires more thought than a simple cop out.
umm, i not sure where you're going with doom. doom is doom. enough said. what's all the devil bs. ha ha ha....obviously you're paying too much attention to a game that really didn't require it.

HAVE you even looked at the development section. half the things there aren't implemented. most of the time you will get. "it's in the code, but not implemented" or "it'll be in next patch" or "next month", how many features is that so far.
don't hold your breadth for factions.

the event takes place in empire space. i shouldn't have to travel outside empire space to carry on with the "backstory".
if they want to create a war between the empires...would make sense to have the war in empire space, no?

I saw what happend in the news and was thinking, wow this is realivent and applys to the RL too well... and i started thinking of what things could be happening next, who's leading the attacks, and whats going to happen next. I mean Why wouldn't Concord collapse and thus enmasse war ensue, then perhaps a new threat appears, then what!?
