Recently many of the new 'storyline' parts of the eve news have been involving conflict between amarr and minmatar, does anyone think that a war in-game is near/possible?
I personally would love to see a conflict of that scale in-game btw. -Boogles- |

Of course it's possible :)
Not between NPC entities (the servers would die) but I can see players duking it out on a grander scale then they are already

The npc battles in the war may not be as visible as the effects that will follow. Although it would be cool if npc's found some sympathizers from the pc population to help take out a fleet of npc fighters or npc + pc fighters from the other side. just have a call for amarr or minmatar with high faction standing get an email or something.

I would like to see the ability to join a faction.
Right now, wars are fought corp vs. corp. But faction ratings are supposed to mean something.
Example in this instance. War between Amarr and Minmatar "rebels". You can't really join in the fight because Fight against who? Any Minmatar/Amarr you run across? Concord/empire police would get involved. Who would your corp get declare war on if it could? Maybe your entire corp doesn't want to get involved? You don't want to join a new corp, you like yours. This way, you can still be a member of your corp and get involved.
Right now, the story is interesting and fun, but we can't really take part in it.
But, maybe there is something else planned we dont know about...eh?

uh. actually. if you pay close attention, you'll note that what's driving the conflict is not Amarr vs. Minmatar, but Amarr faction vs. Amarr faction... with greater or lesser conflicts with various Minmatar as a result. Not a cause.
You are in a maze of twisty little asteroids, all alike. |

I've seen plenty of Oracle Corp members around Frulegur, Hodrold, and Diromitur.

if they really wanted faction wars to be an option, they shouldn't have allowed multi-race corps.

Does that mean I should hate them as well?

Why? There are plenty of corps that are happy to take one side of this battle.

i hardly see a large scale faction war happening when every other corp is mixed with different races. but i guess we'll see.

What about a situation where in the event of a faction war, you can attack members of the opposing factions with no sec hit?
With the threat of CONCORD removed, I could see people getting behind this.
I see EVE sliding towards chaos (as much the result of the playerbase as anything CCP is doing). People are getting bored trolling around in their cruisers and BS's.

Faction ratings have been implemented to some degree. After raiding npc convoys for 3 days in Amarr space, my Amarr faction rating dropped to -4.5. Everytime I travel through Amarr space I got a message saying that I was an 'enemy of the empire', and 3 sarum or amarr navy ships would shoot at me and chase me around. Out of curiousity, I decided to stop running and to fight. After killing many sarum and amarr navy ships my faction rating slipped further to -8.5. At no time in this did Concord get involved, showing that the current system can differentiate between faction rating and security rating.
I can still travel without any problem through amarr space if I am in a fast frigate or cruiser, but an Indy is out of the question. Jump-In lag is an issue because sometimes my screen loads with me already being shot at and having 25-50% shields left.
One problem I've found is that Yulai is somehow designated by the game as Amarr space. I get attacked by the Amarr Navy there. Either Concord is neutral and as such all empires are free to pursue negative faction ratings in Concord space, or that this is a bug.
What I would like to see are: 1) Agent missions that require you to attack the interests of the opposing faction. These missions would have a good risk/reward balance and would be available only to people with a certain -ve faction rating with the opposing faction.
2) Increased hostility towards you that is proportional with your faction rating. Right now I don't notice a difference between being -4.5 and -8.5
3) If I am killing Sarum Navy Colonels, I expect some kind of 'covert bounty' to be paid by the minmatar republic. Either that or an increase in faction rating with minmatar (same for gallente/caldari). Right now the faction ratings seem to function independently of each other.
4) Rewards for high faction rating. It seems now that the only reward I get for a high faction rating with an empire is the ability to kill their convoys for a longer period of time before I am actively hunted. --------------------------- (c) Copyright Saladin, 2005. Saladin, what types of ships do they fly and what sort of loot do they drop? I've never done any faction fighting. Other than those few 1000 serpentis, sanshas and blood raiders I killed. ----------------------------------------- Sig rented by Drethen Nerevitas. |

Lola the Amarr and Sarum Navy Colonels pilot an arbitrator. The Navy Sargeants pilot either a punisher or an executioner...couldn't tell which.
The Amarr Navy Colonels and Sarum Navy Sargeants don't drop any loot. Amarr Navy Sargeants Sarum Colonels do drop loot. I have seen a variety of small guns, ecm jammers and energy neutralizers. The best item I got was a 150mm Carbide Rail gun. Nothing to write home about. I was doing it more for the fun :) --------------------------- (c) Copyright Saladin, 2005.
