I know you can raise standings by doing missions, but the problem I have is my standings with the gurtstas is at -7, and I would like to try some missions for them (we have pretty good control of Venal which is the guristas region).
So, how do I raise standings with guristas up to the point where I can start doing missions for them? Anyone know?

Criminal Connections skill, and possibly doing missions for the linked factions? I.e. doing 'important' missions for other pirate factions should raise standings with Guristas since they are linked... also failing missions for Caldari and such should make the Guristas like you more. o.O;

Yea, but no skills in the world will help me get from -7 standings, and I would guess that I have really bad standings with the friends of guristas as well.
Will lowering my standing with caldari state improve my standing with guristas? If so, I could always griev some players in empire space until I have high enough standing.

Not sure if they actually work this way, but there's only one real way to find out -.^ oh and i don't think shooting people will help you here, since it just affects your security status... you'd probably have to do missions for some Caldari corp and then fail on purpose the "important" missions you get every 10 regular missions or so, since it's the ones that affect your faction standings. o.O;
Though shooting faction navy ships might have some impact too... again not sure really, you'd need to try.

If you want to reduce your standing with Caldari State you can always run missions for Gallente -- a bunch of those missions involve killing Caldari Navy ships and you do lose standing with Caldari from this.

iv heard failing important missions increases the opposing factions standings towards you. _____________________________________ Stressed out with empire politics?

Yes its true, i've tested it. But you realy must be care which faction you want to work for. The only way is to accept storyline missions and fail them to get the opposite effect like you did a importent mission for Guristas (caldari standing is going down and pirates will raise eg)
