But there is one real advantadge pirates in EVE have: they donŠt need to train mining lev 5.

If everyon' were nice ta each other an' peace reigned supreme apart from engagement with tha NPC's, 'dis game would of'been pretty dam' dull. Every profession in EVE has inherent risks, if yer a miner ye need ta worry about ore theft, if yer a hauler ye need ta worry about gate gankin' and so on...
What im sayin' is, EVE isnt supposed ta be an easy game, ye need knowledge an' skill ta be successful. If'n someon' have a perceived advantage over ye in any venture, ye use yer noggin' ta figure out how ta get tha advantage on yer side. Team work, team tactics, tha' sort o'thing, just one example.

I use to mine in what was safe space but now I mine in 0.4 space, the rewards are greater and believe it or not the risks are low. In safe space you have corps that are at war, when one Corp camps another in a station the Corp members that are waiting out side amuse them selves by picking on the miners. In 0.4 the only players are miners and pirates that real do want to kill you. I have found that where I mine in Gerper pirates are not that common and the ones that do come in are ok to talk to.
My biggest advise is never smack talk a pirate build up a friendship and if he or she need a favour do it as it will earn you respect and less chance he will kill you.

Let me comment the original post as it seems the poster is not yet experienced in fighting pirates but suffering from ore thieves and/or gank squads.
1st - you do not need to steal from the thiefs can, kill his ship and all is fine. Or mine in a team and have the ore hauled to station immediately.
2nd - pirates are mostly having a negative standing, attacking the flashing red ones does not flag you as a criminal.
3rd - travelling in high sec is not that easy for pirates because of 2nd above, and might be quite boring for a pirate, too. I am talking of pirates here, not of suicide gankers of course.
4th - stations do protect you as they have sentries, 'tis rare that a pirate group will camp a high sec station, tanking the sentries only to wait for someone coming out. Besides there is a time of invulnerability while undocking.
In contrary, gate and sentry stations give pirates a disadvantage (if red flashing and attacked by bounty hunters).
Amamake has always been a dangerous place, and is not CONCORD patrolled afaik.
And, there are always means to counter such high level space attacks - just fit your ship accordingly and/or travel in gangs, watch yer map for recent kills etc.
And all this changes if someone has a declared war with you Never be in the company of anyone with whom you would not want to die. MEDUSA veteran, Khumaak Award winner

I agree, this game should have some protections against me blowing myself up in the process of aggressing others.
All this self-griefing is ruining the game and must be stopped.

Ok, my thoughts: 1. Use a Secure Container for mining! These are fairly small and expensive, but can pay for themselves many times over. Alternatively, get a corpmate with 'uge guns to guard you.
2. TBH your bounty hunter idea is terrible. The "big game" pirates with -5.0 security status or below are free game anyway. The others aren't so bad in comparison. Pirates are gamers too.
3. The 3rd idea is flawed. Systems are joined together in different ways: Sometimes the only way out of an area is through a high security or low security system. There is no way (I think) that you can get from Assah to Agil without going through high security space.
Your ideas are unfair to pirates. The game already is balanced, it needs no more done to it.
P.S. I tried not to flame

Quote: Not many people mine in a fully equipped frigate/cruiser/battleship so pirates have free reign quite often against new players and "law abiding" players who merely want to mine for manufacturing
Well. Who's fault is it mining in a ship you cant equip for combat?
Quote:
The third unfair advantage is perhaps also contentious. Even with a low security rating a pirate can still travel safely in 0.9 and 1.0 space. I believe that, again, there should be consequences for criminal behaviour and that as your security ratings goes down you should then be restricted to what level of secuirity areas you can fly through.
As far as i know this is already happening -,-
Think before posting 4tw...
Quote: The fourth unfair advantage pirates have is that they can attack another player ouside a station and that player is completely vulnerable. No sentry guns will attack the pirate. The player is unable to enter the station they are close to due to their current status of being involved in a battle. The pirate has the upper hand yet again.
That is a lie. if the target is not an outlaw the sentry guns WILL engage.
Sorry if people ahve already mentioned these points

Just to educate the nubbincakes that made that foolish comment let me explain.
Sentry guns DO work at stations contrary to whatever you believe.
And also YOU CAN dock at stations while being fired upon. However if you fire back you are then locked out from the station (or gates) unless you can tank long enough for the timer to expire.
If you mean "I undocked, started moving and activated modules like an idiot" then the reason you couldn't dock is simply theres a 30 second timer between undocking and being able to dock again. (I think its 30 seconds... urrr could b wrong on that)
