Just a warning to all unsuspecting pilots out there: Shadow Company has got quite a setup at the Kisogo gate of the Jita system. They have a battleship, an interdictor (or cruiser), and a hauler (and occasionally more). Their modus opperandi is to scan all ships coming in, and if they find valuable cargo, to have the cruiser or interdictor blow up the hauler that is carryuing it and have the industrial loot the can. The battleship just sits there in case someone else tries to loot the can, in which case he is then able to blow you up with impunity.
When jumping into Jita, be very careful and keep a close eye on the Overview. Hopefully some of the people they've blown up will come back and get revenge via their kill rights, since all Shadow Company does is sit at the Kisogo gate all day long. Whether this is right or wrong, moral or immoral, exploit or legitimate, is beyond the scope of this post. I merely intend this as a warning to all traders entering or leaving the Jita system.

Well thanks for the warning. But you'll never see anyone come and take thier revenge. Most will take it and move on, others will come to the forums and whine for a game breaking change.
Rest assured that 90% of the suicide killers in empire will never have the kill rights acted apon.

Not quite true since they cannot shoot anyone that loots the cans. The cans will 'belong' to the owner of the ship who got blown up.
They can suicide on it again sure but at a guess I reckon your average cargo is not worth losing a second ship over (and risking that the cargo will survive the second explosion).
I suspect that in most cases they use the BS to suicide, majority of they camps I have seen only involve 1 BS, 1 Hauler....possibly an alt in frig scanning, hard to say.
For the most part you can safely loot any cans pop'd. If they are willing to risk a second ship to get the cargo then its going to be worth the risk looting

I don't doubt the truth of that statement at all. Personally, I just sucked it up and moved on, but I believe in doing anything I can to hamper the actions of pirate corps; consequently I wanted to warn all other pilots who might find themselves in the same position I was in. I figure there's no sense getting my panties in a wad over a game, but if I can warn a few other folks and detract from Shadow Company's profits, then I am happy to do so.

I wonder about the viablility of this tactic. There is no guarentee that the cargo will not be destroyed.

Isn't an interdictor a 100 mil plus ship? Plus, does it really have the fire power to do what you say it's doing? Something doesn't add up.

I'm sorry, I meant an interceptor. One of the ships smartbombed me, and the other fired a missile at me.

Well, I wouldnt be too sure of that. Today I killed a guy, then when I went to pick loot up a frigate came in and looted it and was flagged to me. Ive never seen it before, but on the other hand ive never seen some1 loot a can of one of my victims.
The guy I killed went agro on me first at station, so I wasnt globably flagged and so was a legal kill, im not sure if that made the difference.

you say you dont get your panties in a wad, yet you come here and pretend not to whinge about pirates?
youll do anything you can to hinder people playing the game the way they want to, the way ccp intended it to be played? thats griefing, thats worse than pirating.

Hrmm, its worth noting they have changed something (or its a bit buggy?) but have just checked by killing someone in empire (for scientific purposes ) and the cans were definetly still flagged to the targets corp. This was an illegal kill so maybe that is it...

Seems like those silly people that haul 200M+ at a time STILL did not learn the "Put your stuff in a can with a silly name" tactic. Sure you can get blown up anyway, but if everyone did that, suicide hauler killers would have a hella sucky time choosing targets.

What exactly does "whinge" mean? Yes, I'll do anything to hinder pirates from being successful. If you think that's griefing, so much the better. Thanks for the free bump--because of your post more people will see this thread and know to be on guard when entering Jita.

LOL. Warning people about going to certain areas is also part of the game and the way CCP intented it to be played. Thats not griefing or whining!
Yes it hinders the pirates, but pirating also hinders the victims. Thats the game. Hindering isn't griefing!
If the game mechanics were changed to not allow this to happen, that would be griefing! These situations is what makes EVE, EVE and what makes it so great.
Please don't think its griefing or whining!

Sometimes you should sit at the gate and just scan passing ships, you would be amazed at what goes through that gate sometimes. Definitely worth a suicide Raven or two

I wonder what would happen if someone took a hauler with secure cans with a p/w, could they still be scanned and would the p/w protect the can from being opened when looted
Best was it to set the goods up as courier and it then appear as a package/crate that I know can't be scanned.
I guess these suicide pilots have to return to 0.0 space to repair their sec status on a frequent basis or sell it to buy another.
Sadly suicide ships are used and so long as concord do their job then its a valid tactic. Many simply choose to leave ethics at home this is their way of having fun and who are we to argue. Its not nice I admit but its within the rules.
What you should do is use your kill rights when the time is right for you. He can't attack you without concord getting involved so simply camp the gate near him in a nice fast frig and when concord blow his ship up, come in scramble him and pod him.
Revenge is sweet but you only have a month or so to do it in but my guess is he will move on or log. When his sec status gets too bad he will sell his character and get another.
Good luck, don't get mad, get even.

Cargo Scanners go through containers as already stated. Passwords do not apply to any secure can scooped from space.

This is a good way of doing it if you absolutely must use an untanked T1 hauler . Of course sometimes you just get a gut feeling to go for it anyways - pretty high success rate at guessing here, generally older players simply dont do courier missions for example.
Most T1 haulers (namely the ones which require V industrial skills) can be tanked against a single suicide BS - this is another good way but you will have to sacifice some space for tanking mod's.
Other way...use a tanked T2 hauler for such hefty loads. Dont expect a 1 mil hauler to guarantee much safety.

Very true we do have to repair sec status after a bit.

Its scummy and dirty yes. But with the sheer amount of isk it brings in I doubt most people would argue if placed in the same scenario. Some are very ethical but most are just too caught up in super safe carebear enviroments to do it.

A good point but killrights dont include podding in hi-sec so Concord will pwn whatever ship you lose (can still be worth it to some - had it happen to me ). The down side is jump clones. Anyone doing this reguarly gets a lot of hate. I'm guessing most are ready to be podded so have no implants or a jump clone in use a lot of the time.
Edit: On a side note I'd just add this is not griefing. It's objective is to make isk. Not cause hassel for other players - thats just a side effect.
Personally I think its one of the most pure forms of piracy (but I guess I'm biased too ). Unlike low sec or 0.0 piracy no noobs get hurt using this approach. Its not a case of kill everything you see but find a juicy target (which can take hours) and then Yarrr!

Im pretty sure something like this was an exploit in the past. If it happens to you just petition and either yall get what shows as blown up on your loss mail, or the shadow company pilots will have the accounts banned.

Also incorrect but feel free to try if you must. Had it been an exploit I most certainly wouldn't use this tactic - and it'd be locked on forums.

So if I flew a hauler full of cans named 'Zydrine' 'Megacyte' 'BPOs' 'Implants' etc, would I be scanned and blown up for it? Or would they hold fire because the scanner didn't see anything else and they're all empty? -omg-
