Move out of hisec. Then you'll realize that space weather is a real phenomenon, that is generated by and consists entirely of other players, who one day may be around and about in droves, and other days may be nowhere to be found. You don't want undock on days that its totally raining blops, or when you can't pass a jumpbridge without tripping over a cloaky PL sabre. Maybe stargates were only ever built to stable space systems not prone to violent space weather. Who knows. Who cares. My EVE Videos |

I think the OP needs a steady tradewind of grapeshot. CCP, debuff Barges, or buff Ganking. Either will do for me, but we need more Yaaar! in this game lest it become WoW in Spaaaaace! -á~ Me |

If you want a universe filled with npcs a la freelancer then go play star citizen when it comes out. Freelancer felt alive with NPCs. This was cool, but Eve doesn't have NPCs that do things like that, probably because there isn't anything cool for them to do.
If the planets started orbiting for real, I don't think I would ever even notice aside from my bookmarks getting messed up.
