I started Eve about a month ago and had no clue about any attributes so just chose some I found interesting at the time. I have now started reading around the forums and have found out that you should really hav balanced attributes.
My stats are: Intelligence - 6 Perception - 14 Charisma - 6 Willpower - 10 Memory - 5
I started out as a mission runner which I enjoyed but is now getting boring, so I am training up my mining skills to make some money. My question is, since I now want to start mining, does my attribute set prohibit me from doing this in a reasonable time? Is there a quick way of remedying this without spending a lot of time because I have exams in a few months and I want to spend my remaining time on eve having fun.
Thanks in advance Barak Smaug

Is there anything I can do? I'm getting really upset that I won't be able to do what I really want just because I was a new player when I started

train learning skills get implants if your not to old make new char make sure what you wanna be and what attributes are required see if those skills with attributes you got high on is what youll be training mostly. PVP get primary perception secondary willpower next "important are intelligence/memory" charisma is a waste if you dont tend to train alot of skills demanding charisma. But dont think your screwed because of your begining attributes m8!
prolly vets can say all this in even more detail etc. If you make a new char you can make a character search for new char online with old and "give all money" to him and also escrow everything that you want on new char by making an escrow deal and type in new char name restrict to and such.
My personal view is for combat/pvp its okey hmm I think I put like 3 points on perc and 2 on will when I made my char also different char in races has different begining stats suited for different "roles", but a char that says trader can still be an uber pvp:er also if you make a miner and then change your not screwed so if you like your char and its not to old dont make a new one dont need to m8!
hope this helps :)

cool np m8 dont worry your not screwed in a longshot so get perhaps implants for memory and intelligence in that order to speed up training learning skills memory/int same order then perc will and same going advanced learning skills go atleast lvl3 good4 no need for lvl5 (advanced learning.) and if you get bored take the break when all basic learn is lvl4 then later resume to advanced lvl3 atleast when money permits offcourse!

Those are very good stats for pvp/fighting. And the fact is that many many players turn to the fighting part of eve in the end, so when you get there you are gonna be very happy with your attributes.

Barak, don't worry I did the same, apart from picking, a well.. um ..bad name for my char, my stats are almost identical to yours, my worrying has seized since getting into a BS with torps, I pwn! and am totally self sufficient in 0.0 space.
I also mine in a barge on occassion, with no issues.

Even for a miner, its not as bad as it might seem. Miners spend a lot of time working on SSC like anyone else. Your stats aren't exactly gimp in my opinion.

You got high perception and willpower - thats good for pvp. but not so good for training times (low memory/intelligence). complete opposite to me.

First of all, if running missions bored you, you won't be mining for a long time. Mining is without a doubt the single most boring game-feature ever.
However, should you decide to go the combat/PvP route, your attributes are very good. Very high perception and willpower will help you a lot training gunnery/missile and spaceship command skills. But if you want to be an industrial/science kinda guy, you're quite screwed.

What do you mean high perc and will "good for pvp"? Surely this is solely good for training times for pvp skills. Then "not so good for training times" - do you mean not so good for gunnery, missile and spaceship command training times?

It is not necessary to worry about your attributes, as long as your char is low. You will need all other attributes than char when training the differnts skill categories.
Charisma is an exception as there are so few skills that have charisma as a primary attribute that having high Charisma is not of much worth.
Someone in this forum presnted a chart some time ago, which clearly pointed out that because of the variety of skills you need to train to be effective (be it pvp or industrial), your attriutes, with learnings included, will only affect overall training time until a certain goal by 30% at most.
So, your char is perfect, dont worry. ________________________________________________

In the long term, I predict you're going to love those attributes. You might have some struggles initially with Learning, fitting skills and industry but down the track you're wonderfully prepared for combat skills.
If you plan on flying Minmatar ships you'll be in for some work on Gunnery. A lot of people who like to fight end up with >50% of their skill points in Gunnery/Missiles and Spaceship Command. If that's your ultimate goal, you're in great shape.

No stats are inherently good or bad as they only dictate how quickly you train your skills up. Your stats are good for piloting and fighting skills, but your mining, industry and electronic warfare skills will be slower to train. That does not mean that you will be no good as a miner or industrialist though. Accept your stats as they are and play on. If you really are that unhappy with them, create an Alt with stats you are happier with, and play with him/her. You can improve your figures with learning skills and plug-ins. Just be patient!
