I originally played EVE from 2009 - 2011 and left for two years. At that time, I only lucked into 1B ISK due to a market order that someone fulfilled at the wrong price (bank error in my favor). I couldn't even fathom having 20-100 B in an account. Now that I'm back playing again, I've been checking out the "Sell Orders" forum recently and noticed all of the multi tens or hundreds of Billions ISK items that are for sale or being traded, such as T2 BPOs, ships, etc.
Have I totally missed the boat here? Is there hope for a returning player to ever get a shot at owning decent T2 BPOs and/or Supercaps? I get the sense that even if I could start generating decent ISK per month that the cost of a T2 BPO will continue to outpace the ability to get the required ISK for one.
This is in-fact a serious thread, not lame-o whining. I'd like to know folks thoughts about where all this ISK came from. Have people just been playing this game since the beginning and have a huge stockpile or am I just not being creative enough?! |

big isk is in large scale trading and manufacturing. It involves some level of planning ahead. "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"

Riot Girl: I could actually see something like being a 3rd-party conduit, or even running a banking institution as an interesting way to make a living in EVE, though I'm a long ways off from understanding all the mechanics on how to do it!
Batelle: When you say "large scale trading and manufacturing" does that mean heading up the operation and bringing in other people?
I'm definitely leaning away from the pure PVE I did a while back (grinding L4s... ugh), but I'd like to do some exploration, that seems neat.
Right now I'm working on the Science and Production skills, and have joined a group doing manufacture. I'd like to learn the ropes and figure out a way to make it very profitable in the long-run.
During my initial foray into station trading, I made about 200M over the course of 2 weeks. Not great, but it began to teach me a lot about market dynamics. I also had to watch the incessant scamming going on in Jita.
Next to the amount of ISK I'm making, my biggest issue is optimizing my time in-game. Real-life demands caused me to leave the first time, and i'm determined not to let that happen this time! The constraint is still real-life though, I don't have leeway to give up that time for gaming, nor do I want to. So I'll have to carefully monitor my work/play balance.
Thanks for the thoughts thus far, I welcome more! |

Plenty of ways to make serious isk, from scamming people (in Jita or otherwise) to infiltrating a corp full of idiots and taking their iskies when they're dumb enough to give you roles. You can work on your trade skills and trade in some of the high value items that are on the market nowadays (PLEX, for example), making a few isk per transaction but many transactions per day, etc. You can grab a mobile depot and head off to nullsec in a cloaky interdiction nullified T3 with modules installed to change your fit to scanning and site running when you get to some remote corner of null with decent sites. Make 1BN for a few hours' work. Etc etc etc. |

With EVE being the kind of game it is, lacking the mechanics to provide accountability, it's pretty much impossible to establish any kind of banking business simply because people will believe (probably rightly so) that you'll just take their money and run. My EVE Videos |

You're asking in GD for a get rich scheme.
Indicators are that you're going to struggle with that objective if this is your font of knowledge.
You also appear to want results and to not involve others to achieve goal.
My wisdom to you is to make friends and enjoy doing things with them rather than via them. ISK will flow quick enough. Not directly, but surely.
Oh and welcome back :/)

With renting in 0.0 being as big as it is- there are people who start a corporation, join a rental alliance, recruit players who want to PVE in 0.0 without all the sov crap and politics. Set a conservative tax rate to cover your monthly rent and generate a tidy profit for yourself. |

Good luck
I'm not opposed to involving others, though I am concerned with making too much of a commitment of time, as I don't have it to afford. I'm currently in a corp and very much looking forward to working with them on group objectives, so didn't mean to give off that vibe.
And rather than a 'get-rich' scheme, I'm sort of wondering what the state of play is with regard to all the exceedingly higher priced items, which seem to be continually out of reach. I'd love to aspire to making that much ISK, and have been looking for ways to do so, but can't quite piece together what a consistent approach would be.
Thanks for the replies thus far, helps add some perspective! |

If there is a relatively easy way to make isk, with little time and effort involved, those that know it aren't going to tell you.
You really just need to do research on your own versus asking point blank about how to make isk. There are many new things in the game (T2BPOs aren't it) that you can exploit if you want. All take varying degrees of time and effort to be successful. However, in general "large scale" usually involves more time and/or more accounts. If you want to be richer than 90% of Eve players, then you need to be better at something than more than 90% of players. I earn all my ISK from PvP and recently I've been doing fairly well at it. Enough to pull in a bil or so each month (on top of PvP costs). A great many people will tell you that earning ISK from PvP is impossible. I'd heard that a lot before I tried.
The point is to pick something that can make money and figure out a way of doing it better than everyone else. I am not saying it's easy. It really isn't. But that's pretty much what you have to do. Same applies for trading. Find a niche, like a route, a certain market, a specific hub, and try and be better at that niche than everyone else doing it. That will make you rich. Things like PvE, and mining generally have a hard cap, so avoid any ISK making process that is hard capped. Most of the high ISK earners make it from player interactions. Take, for example, Chribba's trusted 3rd party service. Chribba managed to prove that he's the most trust-able person in Eve Online, and as such he is making a mint out of that. Every time someone has set up a bank its turned out to be a scam. I did at one point have a few hundred mil in EVEbank once but I got it out (along with my interest) before it was revealed. Scamming/Theft is also a good way to make big money.
Quote:Batelle: When you say "large scale trading and manufacturing" does that mean heading up the operation and bringing in other people?
No. Scaling up in manufacturing doesn't need to mean involving other people, but it will involve training all the character slots on your account for some function or another (usually extra research job slots or manufacturing slots). Generally, finding a profitable niche is often something that can be exploited by a single person, and is enough work to do that you don't want to split your niche with others. Some people are able to identify enough profitable things (or are building on such a scale) that they are able to delegate to others in the corp.
Trading is even less suited to collaborating with other people, as all you really need is capital to start and a few skills. You don't need to get into market manipulation to make a killing, and things like maxed skills and faction standing are more important with some markets than others (the money saved could be your entire profit margin, or it could be insignificant, depending on the prices and the trading volume). I recommend The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. It has the key to a life of abundance in New Eden, you simply have to stop sabotaging yourself and send positive energy into the galaxy and T2BPO and Supercapitals will flow effortlessly into your keep. |
