I know the new patch has fixed quite a bit of problems with drones, but I still notice them to be incrediblely slow in returning to drone bay sometimes. Anyone notice this and has a work around for it? Thanks.

Lock on drone, launch a cruise missile at it. Then type in local "Let that be a lesson to the rest of you"
That should solve your drone problem. Drones need displin just like everything else. If you don't set the rules down when they are young, they'll miss-behave for the rest of thier lives.

I have noticed one other interface problem - when you launch 5 drones and then use the return to drone bay 4 of them will return and the fifth one will stop short and freeze where it is. The only way to get it into the drone bay is to scoop it.

Happens all the time and is very annoying.
"Return to Drone Bay."
"Ok, Boss, but we're only going to go 5m/s, ok?"

Yeah i've lost about 10 drones in the last 2 weeks becuase of this.
you hit Return to drone bay 3 will come back, the other two will MWD to you then slow down to 10m/s once they get to about 2000m and the rats will pick them off then most of the time.

If you approach the drone(s) that are 2000 m from you they will be scoped into your drone bay.

My findings:
1) If you move faster than the orbit velorcity of the drone, it will never get scooped.
2) Sometimes the drones just slow down before the 1500m scoop radius. Until you aproach the drone so that the distance drops below 1500m, your drones are not scooped.
3) On Return to dronebay command, usually 1 of 5 drones doesn't get scooped (even if it's orbiting your ship, under 1500m).
4) Drones tend to change targets if the enemy they are attacking is not shooting at you. You just have to keep issuing the engage target command to enemy at 80km while ignoring the frigate shooting at you 1km away.
5) Serious lag when deploying/scooping drones. Sometimes the client freezes for 20-30secs before normal operation continues. --- Sell orders Free money for n00bs |

Drones are continuing to be a complete PITA. Each patch does seem to improve them but they never seem to work quite right. I still get drones managaging to stick themselves together somehow and come to a complete halt. When I'm flying a Domi its a pain to have to fly 35km+ to go unhook the pair of them and scoop them back in.
Regardless, I haven't lost a drone in a long time to pirates, and neither should anyone else who uses their brain. Wait, wait, wait and then wait again after you've warped into a belt. As soon as every rat has got you targetted on a red lock (NOT yellow), then you can launch your drones. Yellow locked rats will target your drones, red locked will concentrate entirely on you.

There's a way around the glitch. Tell the drones to orbit and once they're orbiting you scoup them into your drones bay. Seems that the "return to drone bay" is bugged but the scoup command isn't.

Yes that is what i do aswell, works like a charm when 'return to drone bay' doesn't work.

I generally use return and orbit then scoop.
Normally 1 stops just out side orbit range, so i have to go fetch him. Its like looking aftyer children i swear. Im always shouting to drones
"dont make me come over there and get" "just you wait till i get you home"
I then recycle the naughty drone as a warning to his buddies

also me and a few corp mates have come across my drones will attack my corp mates ships, or there drones, even if they have not got me locked, they just go off on one and attack em. I'd rewrite the drone codeing from base too many issues crop up using them just to keep patching bugged code PINK PINK PINK PINK PINK ERISGREEN Eris <3 Meh!

Edited by: Abraxus on 20/03/2006 12:10:30 One way to unhook drones that I've found. Get them both to return to the ship, then select one of them and get it to attack something.
You will notice that they will seperate as they are now going for different targets. Then ask them both to return a few seconds later, they will return faster
PS - Drones are a pain, especially when losing tech ii's to this!
