I am looking for some advice on combat drones. Are Wasps the best out there? Or due to damage type do you need to carry different types of drones? If you had 2500 drone space and can launch 9 drones what would you carry?
Also, if you're geared for longer range damage, like 30-40k, are drones any good from that distance?
Thanks,

Edited by: Andrew Jade on 10/09/2003 16:02:15 HEavy drones do different damage:
Wasps: Explosive Ogres: Thermal Praetors:EM
So as you can use 9 drones either swap them around, ie use praetors first, then wasps, etc. Or of course you could use 3 of each for a broad spread of damage. For note, heavy drones will tear cruiser to shreads in mear seconds. So any will do, i recommend though wasps or ogres. Drone range is limited to 20K, of course this can be increased with skills, also if you use a weapon, the the drones will attack at any range, minor bug.

you forgot berskers-explosive
also
Berkserkers explosive damage more than one pirate at a time if in range of the other pirate that he is shooting at
Wasps are fastest flyers
Praetors are most popular among my past customers, duno why
Ogres do most damage |

As a long range NPC killer myself, I keep a mix of heavy drones but only pop them out when a pirate spawns right on top of me while picking up a can. That way you can shut off any guns that don't have enough tracking to hit it anyway and put that cap to shields while your drones munch him...no real danger that way ;) Any other way of using drones requires that I have extras nearby as they tend to die a lot more.

Just for the protocol - wasps do kinetic, not explosive.

when going against 20/30K rats supporting 40/50K rats i prefer wasps due to their ability to go from target to target quickly. If I just need shear fire power i user the ogre but expect to lose one or two when running up agains multiple 40/50K rats(they are slow thus easy to target) and of course when you' ve run the cap dry and a new spawn just appeared then deploying them what ever they are works just fine(remember to get the scrambler if nothing else)
thats my experience with them

any heavy drones are fine, you want to cover all dmg type, so your choice of drones should depend on your main turret weapon and/or missile dmg type.

give me a reason you want a special type dmg for all weapon and not cover all types of dmg?

Thanks so much for your thoughtful replies...you helped me immensely. I got ahold of a wasp bp so that will be my mainstay, but it sounds like against higher level rats I'll need a mix to do maximum damage.
So longgggggg hammerheads :-)
