Ok, I think we need to figure this one out in the forums - Weapons Icons - we got new one atm, on SISI they are going back to the old ones...
Vote - OLD (the old ones), or NEW (Current ones on TQ)
post reasons:
My comments: 1. the new you can tell what weapons are what, the old - with the new font = you can't tell what is what very well and classes use the same icon wih the old - so your small blasters look all the same... with the new ones you can see definitly which is which.
2. Miner lasers look all the same - hell to tell what they are
3. and so on.. anything that is currently clear is hell with the new font.... even without it it is just a pain in the ass to read the lables when you want to just look at a icon and grab that... this is not a good move.
My vote
NEW - keep it the way it is on TQ

With large HD monitors, I like the new guns tons more (option to keep... Please???) But other people which have small icons depending on their settings and screen size, are black blobs. I think that what they did with CQ is the right way to go. Optional check box. (Simple turret icon on) I mean, the files are there. They exist, and a check box could be as simple as changing one reference path, I cannot see it being difficult at all. |

I am playing on a 13 inch laptop atm and I thought the new icons were OK. Not great. They are obviously poor quality but I would rather see them fix those than go back to old icons. |

Old. They are representative of the item and good for at-a-glance. We don't need 3D models for icons. A picture is fine. |

How about a toggle?
Frankly I think the new icons are great in everything except in the targeting UI, and even then it barely matters much; I keep my guns grouped anyway, so all my targets have two possible statuses: Getting shot, or not getting shot. |

I like the old icons simply because they are easy to identify due to the high contrast between the background and the gun.
If the design was simply altered to have a brighter colour on the gun, then that would be the best imo The Apostle : I want a kangeroo Captain Kirk : Silly Austrians Sarmatiko : Let me guess: you're from US? Captain Kirk : Yeah Riverside IA - why? |

Hate the new TQ icons when in flight, love them in station.
Easier to identify what is being used in ship and on targets with old icons. Easier to identify different guns in loot with new icons when dealing with items.
Yet to have both in this manner would involve a lot of different icon call changes in data with two different sets of icons for everything.
Simplest route I guess its just as a graphic option between the two sets. |

My monitor is 1920 x 1200 and they're still incomprehensible. They're also ugly and clash with all of the other icons in the game.
So OLD. I have no idea why they decided to change them in the first place. |

Likely because they spent a lot of time and effort changing them all and wanted them viewed in as many places as possible without realizing the effects on play. An average problem with art departments. Looks awesome with just the right setup, but not for the average rig.
I also just realized the darker skies with the new nebulae on Sisi would make the newer TQ icon problem even worse. They are all just too dark never mind the scaling distortion.
If they didn't shortcut the new icons with just scaled images of the new models and actually retouched them by hand with new highlights and sharpened angles for the icons, they could have been just fine. Yet that would just take such a long time for how many new models there are. And we want more skins and ships and stations and objects. So we must settle for the old icons. |

Someday in the future maybe they will invent something like a "poll" function for forums. F&ID: Skill Training, Agent Finder What is CCP Guard gonna do with that grenade? |

OLD - keeping the old icons is a perfect way of keeping eve in some small, meager way in touch with its now almost decade-long history without holding us back from anything that is "actually an improvement" or keeping anything ugly around. |

Not too happy that the old icons are coming back to be honest... they look their age... we're getting shiny new ship graphics and nebula and old icons from when the game was released pretty much. |

I'm for the OLD icons or at least something stylized which is easy to recognize. Too much detail and it takes too much time to identify each weapon. |

I noticed that information pages for turrets use the old icons on Singularity. I prefer the isometric views that are on Tranquility right now. The old icons can stay for the actual UI buttons when you need to use them, as those are much easier to read than the isometric views.
For the information pages, I think it makes much more sense to have the isometric thumbnail because it provides a preview for viewing the actual model itself. This is done for ships and clothing, so why shouldn't it be done for turrets? Reverting to the older icons in the information pages just seems inconsistent to me.
So yeah. Basically, just keep it like it is on Tranquility right now. Old icons for UI, but isometric 3D model icons for information pages. |
