The whole thing went down, but is now back up. Restart the client if the server isn't showing as up to you.

i heard from my sources within ccp that the hampsters went on strike...but as we can see it was a failed attempt. Two hampsters were lost during the strike :(

didnt feel like one either, normally you can feel them coming with the network issues beforehand and stuff O.o

The hamsters did indeed go on strike.
CCP brouht in "Fluffy" the mutant alsatian from hell.
The hamsters jumped back on their wheels and started up again.
A blatant case of strike-breaking!

judging by the way there was no 'server starting up' etc id say their proxys just took a ****. just a guess tho.

As I said earlier. DNS problems. DNSReport
Both NS servers were unreachable for the period of the downtime.

Hamsters are the traditional power supply for On-Line gang service providers.
However, Hamster power supplies have their quirks. Strikes are not unheard of.
Strangely enough, Joe Cartoon is often called for strike breaking. Joe Cartoon is normally associated with Gerbils, but they're close enough for government work.
