I'm really disappointed with the capabilities found in the megathron especially when compared to the OLD war horse dominix. shielding and armor differences between the two is minor. ONE extra low slot and ONE extra med slot makes no sense at all. AND why does a much larger ship have half the drone bay, only about 60% of the cpu? At the very least the megathron should have been a larger version of the dominix as the design starting point. What was the big improvement over this very old design battleship. I can't figure out the thought process in the mega's design as a modern technically more sosphisticated improvement over the dominix. It can't be the ability to launch missiles can it? Has anyone else figured it out?

Little while ago someone did PvP test dom vs mega in dishing out dmg. Dom was apparently better cos of higher CPU/slots count.
Now that the missiles got boost, and mega got boosted, someone should do that stunt again. I feel that missiles will turn the scales this time.

Chaos Megathron has got a 100 cpu bonus, 1000 more grid and 1 more low slot.

cpu will still be inferior to dominix and when you use a low slot to bring that up it will still be one med and one low slot less than the old old old dominix. maybe with missile changes that will help. If the mega had been dominix but 25% bigger with only one additional slot at all levels it would have been twice the ship as the mega is now.
But what I was wondering was if anyone had figured out what the logic of the design was when compared to the tried and true dominix for the gallante race. the mega looks good but at almost twice the cost I'm confused at what the big improvement is. Thorax has similar problems great look but key areas(slots, cpu, grid) don't seem to stand up to what gallante race should be able to accomplish.

The dominix is an old ship, from an age where turrets werent primary weapons of war(drones were), so the ship has a lot of low and mid slot fexibility for support, but lacks in high slots and turrets/missiles, in recent years its role switched from primary ship to support, somehow I see higher CPU as being a part of that.
Megathron was designed recently presumably after seeing a lot of the amarr/minmater main battleships with there large numbers of turrets and weapon flexibility, thus is an attempt at a front-line gunship to compete, its drone capabilitys were cut back since they dominix is more than enough on that front already, its armour, structure and shield were increased over the dominix and it was built with as many large weapons as possible and more reactors to power them .. finally it has more systems specialised for hybrid weapons, thus the extra weapon bonus from the shipskill :)
at least, that load of rambling is how I see it :)

But the question remains... is it worth an extra 40 million isk ? Maybe, maybe not... Personally, when you consider than you can buy pretty much 2 Doms for the price of one Mega, the extra high slot is a bit hard to justify, and since battleship prices have essentially stabilized, at least for now, you won't lose by buying a Dominix. You can always sell it for the same price you bought it, if you absolutely, positively MUST have a Mega.

This game is full of diminishing returns, the higher you want things, the even more you have to pay for it. Same with skills as well as modules, and ships. A mega is about twice the price but isn't twice as good, for the same reason that to get a skill from 1-4 is quicker than 4-5. If you want the best, you pay through the nose for it.

I agree with that last statement with the exception to the mega......it isn't nearly as good as the dominix in many ways... I expected it to be as good in all ways and improved in a few.... that didnt'happen......so what happened did the gallante get stupid or something?
