!) Will the reverse engineered item be lost?
2) will you be able to reverse engineer a ship built from a bpc aquired from reverse engineering?
aye, no answers yet, but thoughts perhaps?

1) Yes, cos it's gotta be totally ripped apart to see what makes it tick.
2) Don't see why not.

1) Highly Unlikely, Two reason's one it would render reverse engineering kinda pointless unless the BPC would have more than one run which is also unlikely. Also from what was gleamed from the Vegas Q&A session reverse engineering isn't the exactly correct term for the idea.
2) Seeing as the game will be most likely unable to distinguish between a T2 item built from a bpo or a T2 item built from a bpc probably will be able to do that.
The way I see it is essentially the T2 item becomes a BPO which using reverse engineering you can make bpc's of like you would copying the original BPO, though the bpc produced from a T2 item is of lower quality than that produced from the original bpo thus will have higher mineral reqs, limited number of runs below that of what could be produced from copying the bpo.

Will there be a chance of it exploding killing the researcher?
Now that'd be great for stationbound research alt jampacked with implants, some clone rotation.

One of the devs mentioned a little while back that reverse engineering won't be done on the finished product, but the components or something (it was rather vague). Essentially, if you were to have to reverse engineer the finished product, then nothing would change. The current BPO owners would still have control. They could build them, and reverse engineer them for more BPCs in parallel and make themselves even more rich.

Think u need to rethink that through, it doesn't even make sense how would reverse engineering on the actual product give more control by alowing bpo owners to produce bpc's which are of lower quality probably will take longer to produce than those they can run off from the bpo they own. Plus it wouldn't give them any more control because the moment they sold a T2 item someone else could reverse engineer it. Your statement about only been able to reverse engineer components makes no sense as these bpo's are already freely available on the market, as they are npc seeded.
Reverse engineering was discussed a bit in the las vegas Q&A suggest you go listen to it.
