OK, my old headset died, and they don't make it anymore, so I need a new one. Any advice on good headsets able to be worn for loooooong periods of time would be good. I'm interested in the analog vs. USB angle as well. I use the Logitech« Premium USB Headset 350. It's pretty good, except I wear glasses so it kinda pushes on my ears after a while, and while they are superb headphones and even include noise cancelling that kinda defeats the purpose since I run Teamspeak of a second PC and use surround sound on my name PC for the game, so my game music is often lowered a bit. :)
Good headset and effortless to setup, just plug it in. -- Lil Miner |

Does Eve have voice capability? Or do you have to use a seperate program underneath Eve for it?

You have to use a seperate program. Most organisations use TS.

Aye- no in-game voice for eve. Teamspeak can be found here- and I wear glasses too so I had the same problem till I picked up a cheap headset, bent the boom all out of whack and wear it around my neck with the mic sticking up. --- The Amish are coming! The Amish are coming! |

Plantronics DSP-500 is a great USB headset. Very comfy compared to the Logitech. You can get it on amazon.com for about $45 these days.

I second the Plantronics USB. I got it recently, and it is awesome. Very comfortable, even with glasses.

In terms of the USB thing, do you have to install more drivers for audio to be sent out via USB ports? I've got so many audio drivers installed for 3 different cards already (I produce electronica when I can pry myself away from this life-sucking game :) and putting any more audio drivers on my machine might just be the proverbial straw. WMP already freezes if a game is playing sound and I try to play some music behind the in-game sounds.

Re: USB headsets, WinXP doesnt require extra drivers. It supports USB headsets out of the box. So there is no software included with the Plantronics headset, just plug it in and go.
Incidentally, you can configure Windows to use either the sound card or headset as the default sound device. The same can be done in Ventrilo (what ISS uses). So, my default sound is set to go out my speakers. Then I configured vent to use my headset. That way, all my voice comms are separate from sound effects/music/etc. Works great for me!

$5 Wal Mart cheap headsets for the win. Now if you want a good headset to wear all the time, just like cheap sunglasses, go with the cheap headsets. But I will say, I was reluctant to buy one for myself or use them for contest giveaways. but the Logitech USB headsets have been super. Solid, comfortable, and USB is great for a headset for everything from TS to work for LiveMeeting and MSN Messenger - plug it in and go.
RCA jacks - cheap laptop or business, travel and home (aka got a job) - go USB I like cats, especially with General Tso's sauce. FREE EVE Teamspeak Join EVE Teamspeak chat channel and get free teamspeak for your gang, corp or alliance - http://eveteamspeak.comEVETeam |

basically, it's different for everyone.
Myself, i use a plantronics headset. Cost about 35$, but it has great audio quality that I didn't notice till I switched from Team speak to a Ventrilo server. Still dunno why everyone uses TS.
Anyways. only way to find out is to try the headsets. I prefer larger ones with cloth covered ear pieces.
I REALLY don't recomend USB headsets. For one, it seems to cause problems if your USB ports are in use by other devices. I've seen people have to reboot in the middle of stuff becuase the USB port has "Reset" or somethign, and they just loose mic functions.
A good old fashioned Dual 3.5mm (1/8th inch to you american's) head set pluged into your sound card works great. I dont' recomend the cheap ones, just from personal experience. they tend to be cheap, break easy, sound awful, and not fit well. - -
