Hi, my two accounts where banned temporaly for almost a month. I would like to explain my story and see what you guys have to say about it, because I think its just wrong on what there doing to my accounts.
This last saturday I was at one of my friend's house playing some xbox 360 with him. I come back that night to find out my two accounts were banned for an ETC scam investigation. Ok so I was just trying to think of how this could of happened and it just might of been a mistake. I petition it and a GM responds and says my accounts have been banned for 21 days.
Ok so now, im pretty furious as to what happened. I search the sell orders on the EVE forums and I find a post by my alt on one of my accounts. It appears that the character from my alt account posted a thread wanting to sell an ETC.
I wonder to my self, how could anyone get on my account? Then I knew who could of done it, my hostile roommate. I like to keep my account info on my harddrive(i have a forgetful memory and I have OCD) and he must of hacked in on my computer and found it.
OK, so I now just thought to my self, how could both of my accounts be banned when only one account posted on the forums? I updated my petition and the GM responded: "2 did the scam and then sent the isk to 1, making both accounts involved." (2 for alt account and 1 for main account)
How does this look to you guys? It looks stupid sence only one account did the scam and both accounts got banned for it? In your honest opinion, do you really think that the GMs would just ban someone just for recieving ISK from a random person that scammed someone? You can't stop money coming in to your wallet. Its a one way transaction, just because a character from my main account recieved ISK from my alt account (probaly found out through my I.P. that they were both my accounts) doesn't mean they can just ban me like that, or does it?
I have been scammed in many other MMOs and its only a simple thing to do. Tell a GM and the GM tells the person to give back what ever they took and they wont get banned, if anything they will just get a warning. But in EVE, they dont even talk to you, its just a instant ban no matter what.

As far as I know we can have many accounts on the same computer without it behing a breach of policy... Just check out Power of 2 and all the threads related to doing so..

Be thankful you only got a temporary ban, and get a new roommate. |

I have to say though, the GMs are being nice and proffesional about it. They reply every day and a half to my updates, which is good compared to 6-7 days from other mmos like WoW.

Edited by: Sarmaul on 21/03/2006 21:51:12 1) You are responsible for keeping your password data secure. If there's a breach at CCP's end then it's their fault, but as you clearly stated you kept the password readily available on your computer for anyone to see and abuse, which someone did. If you have a hard time remembering your password, I suggest you keep a clue to what it is, and not the actual password itself.
2) As both accounts belong to you, both would be banned regardless as it is you being banned, not the account. Whether or not the second account was involved, if they traced it back to you - and they probably did further checks to see if you had any other accounts - they would banned those too.
3) The entire story about your roommate could be a lie - how do you prove it? I'm sure CCP get hundreds of*****-and-bull stories from people when their accounts get banned and take them all with several bags of salt. Like I said in point #1, it was your fault he got hold of the account information in the first place.

I do have everything passworded. I have a BIOS password and a Windows XP password to log onto Windows. I just have a simple password on my protected files though.

You're pretty lucky it wasn't a permaban.
Talk to the GMs, notify them of what happened, and even if they won't undo the ban, just make sure they know what happened.

How the hell can you scam an Eve Time Card?
And leaving your account info on your hard drive because you're neurotic is a pretty weak excuse.

I guess learn to comprehend is on your list!? I said point? meaning so what that makes it more "likely"? hostile roomate transfering ISK randomly after hacking his comp for the fun of it? gees I guess it makes sense if ppl like you are dumb enough to live with nutcases lol

Yeah, but his friend didn't even play EVE Online. This guy owned both accounts. What the hell did he expect to gain through ISK-for-gamecards?
EDIT: Oh, it was out of spite? Har. That's the risk you take when you keep your account info on your hard drive.

in the story, the friend was not a friend, and expected to gain a short sharp tap with the banhammer for his actions (which would of course be perceived to have been done by the account owner)
tbh, i;m not buying it, but thats the story

I didnt comment as to whether his story is likely or not. (I'm of the opinion GM's dont ban without good reason)
However, it is within the realm of possibility he has to bunk with someone he does not like at uni (for example).
why do you even reply? and within realm of possibility lets not go there

tbh it could be true yes. Then I feel sorry for him and reccomend him getting a "bat" and revenge. But about CCP banning him, well that sux if its true, but its more of a "domestic" problem then a game/CCP banning policy one.

Scamming a time card sale from both the forums and in game, then laundering the ISK to a second character, is a pretty involved series of actions for someone who doesn't even play EVE isn't it? Fishy. -- Lil Miner |

I always see this in some episode of cops. A guy gets pulled over and acts all nervous, officer has him step out of the automobile and the cop finds an 8ball. First thing out of the drivers mouth is always, "officer thats not mines I think its my buddies stash he used my car". etcc.
Busted by CCP cops no excuse.
