what are the major differences between light med and heavy drones?
besides HP and volume, once I can use heavy drones, would there be any reason to want to use light?
sorta confused, thanks

Well, not all ships can fit a full rack of heavies, but that's part of the volume issue.
Heavies = too slow to chase frigs, and their guns' sig radius causes them to miss frigs a lot. Their tracking is mediocre also. Great against cruisers and larger.
Mediums = good damage against both cruisers and frigates, but too slow to chase interceptors with their MWD on, and too high a sig radius to hit interceptors well that have their MWD off.
Lights = relatively low damage, but they shred inties.

Think of Small, Medium, and Large Turrets.
Heavy Drones can not track small targets in addition they are slow and get hit a lot, though they can take some damage.
Light Drones can hit most targets and are fast... They are also harder to hit but can not take much damage.

Are drones really worth it before Battleship level?
I have trained combat drones but they dont seem to do hardly any damage at all and they are very fragile.

--ok that all helps,
so then is it safe to assume that for someone in say a battleship wanting to use drones as an anti frig type weapon would be Best using light drones as long as they dont mind using a bunch of them and manufacturing tons of them ?
Basically I dont mind sacrificing my dronebay if it helps keep me safe from frigates etc I want to be able to fit my battleship w/ heavier weapons but get a bit worried w/ the idea of frigates etc, so need to figure out what i am gonna do about drones now lol :)
Also is there a certain type of each drone that is teh best to carry, like any specific damages or ones that seem to be preferred by people?

When used properly, drones are very very effective.
They are not great in large fleet actions, but can turn the tide in smaller engagments.
In addition they are VERY Flexable.. For example you can deploy your lights to clean up enemy frigates and cruisers then recall them and send your heavies against an enemy Battleship.
Note: They are not meant to realy work alone, they are meant to support the main drone ship. Normaly for example the carrier is tanking and nosing thus the drones are not taking much damage and the target can't repair. :)

Probably mediums. Lights are mainly used by ships with drone bays of 35m3 or less.

with the right skills drones can do some very nice damage (drone interface)
I used a vexor to do all my level 2 missions without ever firing a gun, i even equiped 3 tractor beams and 2 noses in the highs.
drones rip through things faster than i could tractor beam the cans, now with the new improved IA i dont even have to select the next target.
I wouldnt fly a ship without drones now to be honest but than again i do fly gallente.
