If I attack a convoy, what loot is it likely to have and is it worth the effort considering the sec hit and Concord action etc?

What convoys are you referring to? PC or NPC?
Basically the answer is, "it varies."
So, unless you have advance knowledge of what the convoy is carrying and can decide whether it's worth the danger and security status penalty, I would recommend exercising caution. You don't want to find out that you risked it all for a few pounds of Veldspar.

Just buy a cargo scanner to see what the ship is transporting. I would not advice to attack convoys in higher then 0.5 space, because the convoys usually have big structure and armor. ( or you must have really Big size weapons or with many ppl.

If you choose this path in Eve, make sure you follow these precautions;
If there are police present.. Don't Make sure you are at least 55km away from sentry guns Look at your standings and keep your eye on them, these attacks don't alter sec status but they do affect standings with relevant factions etc. ie if you're Ammar, you don't want to annoy amarr based factions Wait at least 15 minutes before gate jumping or docking...
Oh and bring a friend, it's likely that you won't be able to carry all that loot...
Cargo scanner by the way is essential

I was referring to NPC Convoys - I locked onto one last night in a 0.9 and followed it out to 80km from the station - All it's mates turned up so I decided against any hasty action. How tough are they anyway? I'm flying a Punisher frigate at the moment, which has been able to see off most things I've encountered so far - but don't want to bite off more than I can immediately chew... ...and thanks for the advice

Scanners work? Guess i've not done it in a while and it's been changed. I remember killing any of them i could find with my merlin and hoping to make a couple bucks.
I remember making some really good money from their drops, whether it was 35-40k small ammo dropped or robotics to silicate glass.
I'd suggest creating an alt to do cargo hunting in, feed it money and weapons, you don't want a really nasty faction rating. ------------------- Basic truths? Idiots make us rich. - Some people are only alive because it is illegal to kill them. |

as ingel convoy ship USEALY drops things worth abut 100k, but some times as much as 200k. the standings are forgiven over times so just do a few hits on covoys wach day and it wil hardly be noticed If it aint nailed down its mine. --------- kil list: 3 thorax's 1 moa 2 pod's 1 repunter ------- 1 death |

I took out a convoy a week ago in a thorax with drones. Managed to take out 4 of the 5 ships b4 the last one warped. I would not advise it in a frigate as you'll get pounded and the loot you get usally is'nt that good. You'll not take a Sec hit but your standing with who ever owns the convoy will drop quite a bit. However this will start to climb again in a few days by itself (mine did anyway). And yes have someone in a hauler near to pick the stuff up.

There's an excellent guide by Kalshrith over at eve-i all about this--runs down the whys and wherefores, what faction(s) you'll take hits in. It's a good read with solid advice.
So go read it.
