For example, I want to train both:
Spaceship Command V Caldari Industrial V
which with my current char will take about 10 days each.
However, if I spend 5 days training my learning skills up more, will the result take the time off to where I'd spend less time training up to them?

They won't take five days off, no, but probably two or three.

The indy skill if im not mistaken takes something like 16-19 days depending on attributes. If you train up your basic perception skill to 5 then (along with lvl 3 or 4 of the adv. perception skill) you can easily make up for the training time. ---

Spaceship Command is Rank 1. With good base attributes, high learning skills and implants you could reduce that training time down to well under 4 days. Imagine that effect applied to all of your future training. I think you'll see the benefits of improved learning skills.

There's no possible way those could take 10 days each since they're different ranks. The first is Rank 1, the second 4. So if you're saying SC takes 10 days, Indy would take 40.
In that case, you definitely need to train your learning skills, as you should be at 5/20 with good attributes.

U just have to think that tehy effect all skills so dont think of is it worth it for them 2 skills but if ur becoming a hauler alt then it'll be better in long run if u deceide to train into Transporters and Blockade runners with it. transporters is a high rank skill so from lv4 - 5 it can be about 2 n half months, spending 5 days getting the learning skilsl up may knock u the couple days off hauler skill and then maybe a week of transporter lv5 as well as knocking time off every other level of skill so rapidly mounting up the time saved just from those 5 days

we need some things from the OP before we can tell you the benefit: 1. Need your attributes as they are now. 2. Need to know any implants or learning skills you've already trained.
Actually that's about it.

There is a thread about learning skills here somewhere. What you got to think of is that when you have skilled those 2 skills there will be other skills you want to train. Comparing the time taken for learning skills compared to the time saved for 2 skills is illogical. It is effective to get all your basic learning skills to lvl5 and the extended learning skills to lvl4. If your going to be playing for years then get them to lvl5 also. I made the mistake your thinking of by learning them a little then skilling other things. I lost alot of learning time. When you want to learn to fly elite ships you will want atleast lvl 4 extended learning skills. You easily get your time back.

I completely agree. My intention was to show him that even on a single lvl 5, a lot of time can be made up by simply training his learning skills. In my opinion, those 2.2 million skill points in learning are what has enabled my character to be great.

Just 1 level of learnings reduces the time laods... umm I mean for a skill that takes nearly 2 days, if you train the primary learning skill level 1 the time to do both skills will then be less than the single one before.
even if you are only going to play for 2 weeks then level 2 of the learnings make sense.

I remember starting out with a Perception of 3. Yes, 3. I don't remember whether it was Spaceship Command V or Frigate V, but one of them was going to take me 41 days to train. After training the Perception and Learning skill to V, it dropped to 14 days, give or take a day.
So was it worth it? Absoltutely.
There isn't much point to training the advanced learning skills past IV though.

As a ballpark number, near full learning skills and some cheaper implants will reduce training times by a factor of 2.5. So something that takes 2 and a half weeks would reduce to 1 week. Its a big improvement.
This is for a character starting with somewhat balanced stats (8-9) and taking basic learnings to 5, and advanced to 4's and a +2 or +3 implant.
