Edited by: Doc Extropy on 22/03/2006 09:19:11 What are they?
Can they be used to improve character attributes?
Where can I get them?

I don't believe they are available yet. One rumour I heard was that their introduction would be a way of becoming a Jovian. However, if you read the backstories etc, they mention how dangerous they are and how greatly reduce your life expentency.... would you want to get a new clone every 2 weeks when ur skills are high.... hmm... expensive.

They are not in game. (yet?)
The real idea behind them is a little misty but they seem to in the original plans have to been meant to modify you attribute points in some way or the other...
Maybe soon™ CCP will introduce them on the other hand they where originaly planned for the beta or shortly after and thats a few years ago so who knows...

Wait, does that mean, that I wasted so many points at generation (Biology 2, Genetics 1) on skills, that let me acces features that are not even in game yet? Could they have AT LEAST make a little note [not implemented] so that I knew not to bother with the skill? Jezz, this game is the LEAST newbie friendly MMO I've ever seen. I wonder what other gimp choices did I make without even knowing about? Way to go devs

You're still young. If your choices and 'wasted' skillpoints offend you that much, take a dive into the recycling tanks and get different skills. And don't take it so personally. Most people's main characters are their second or 3rd run trying to figure out how to set up attributes/starter skill combos. --- The Amish are coming! The Amish are coming! |

I think EvE is just not for me. I don't like games that hide rules from you.

Don't worry about it too much. You didn't lose anything, and you have some skills that very few others have! I have the biology skill too, but it hasn't prevented me from doing anything else in the game. I have even trained it up, because I am weird that way.
You didn't gimp anything.
You are right that EVE is not exactly newbie friendly, but there are many resources to draw upon to help with that. Your NPC corp should help you out to some degree. I loved the Science and Trade Institute people. I have heard others are not as helpful though. These forums can be helpful too, if you take them with a good bit of salt.

Oh, I'll try. The game seems to have realy interesting aspects outside of combat, but sadly those aspects are hardest of all to get into. I have found tonns of combat guides and very few explanations on how science or manufacturing works. Learning's still fun. Thanks for support.

Yep, I got the same things as yu did at the start, the Biology and Science stuff. I thought "Cool! DNA mutators. Now can really do something wacky in the game".
Nope. Nada. Zip. Allowing the use of DNA mutators seems to be a funny joke so far. Why can't it be implemented? Why is it available if it's usless? How hard would it be to remove that option at the beginning?
Oh well. Muatate this. Don't let your meatloaf. |

For information about the industrial side of eve, you should check out the Stations, Starbases and Outposts section. Specificially, this post.

Their version of a "not implemented" note is to check the market and see that there has absolutely been none bought or sold ever.

I started the game, read no manuals or forums. I also started just after Beta. I thought Hey, I want to run my own corp so I will choose that path, and give him extra charisma, and high memory (cause afterall if you have poor memory how can you learn anything lol) My reasoning was flawed and I had nasty starting stats I found out 2 months later.
Peole told me to restart and my precip and willpower were too low, and my charisma too high.
I didn't restart, and now I'm ok. I was fine from the start. I took an extra few hours to train a skill in gunnery or Missles, but trained Engeneering, learning, Science, Electronics, Drones, industry, Mechanic, and navigation faster than my friends.
I now have more skill points than them, more skills, and am a lot further along than they are.
Personally I would like to have the biology skill as I cannot get it in-game.
and to demonstrate how a start doesn't affect your character much. I started with HORRIBLE stats. I mean horrible! More charisma than precip, and equal to Willpower.
My stats now are 25/20/22/22/29
I've been playing for a long time, but the good thing about eve is you're not limited at all in any way by how you start. You can do anything at all

I thought I gimped myself as well I had low perception (4), but I had 11 willpower, 9 Intel and Memory 5 Charisma.
After I found out Perception was used in Gunnery and Ship skills I thought I was gimped pretty bad. However... I use the Skill tracker Spreadsheet, pushed in everything I could possibly want, 1600 days of training. Then messed around with my Attributes... I found out my Attributes actually saved me training time! If I reduced intel and memory and upped Perception by 2, it took over 25 days longer to train everything I wanted.
And oddly enough, after selecting absolutely every skill in the game (15 years training) my attributes only lost me 15 days.
Honestly I can't complain about what I did, I am sure not going to learn every single ship in the game, and I'm not going to learn weapons for ships I'm not going to train. If you say "I'm going to be hard core Caldari, or Amarr, or Mimnatar" You actually want more Intel and Memory then Perception. Your other support skills make you a better fighter.
A BattleShip vs a BattleShip with the same weapons all comes down to what other skills you have, more Armor, faster cap charge, more Cap, faster charging Shields. etc all those stills don't use Perception...

Wouldve been a wise idea to research before you spent hours/days training skills.

In the words from EON issue #4: DNA mutators "ain't happening."
Boosters on the other hand.... ---
292 of 315 skills trained. |
