You mean the bug where it shows who's in the channel?
I agree, that's been a bug for... 3 years now. There's even a dev blog on how unintentional that is.

I get the disapearing local chat, can still se people just can't read or type, in 0.0 alot. Its only happened after jumping 10 or 12 gates. If I am in a system for a long time it doesn't mess up. So it is might be a node exchange not syncing right or smth.

I guess your dont travel much. Local gets all bugged out, and you cannot see whats being said or reply, etc. Also all the other channels closing, gets real annoying.
There was a reply in Game Dev. about these issues. Apparently its a difficult fix, just like the recon ships is a difficult fix.
It kinda reminds me of studying for my exams, It gets difficult so I do something else, but I know in the back of my mind that I will have to get to it eventually.

Btw I got the local bug with corp chat too once.

its a good temporary fix but still doesnt solve problem, i believe if a feature is in the game you should be able to use it as intended with no problems.. so it still has to be solved

i would like to see this fixed too. I have filed a bug report. I like having the portraits on because it splits up the text, but i shall use the workaround for now. ------------- My Video: Start wearing purple while being very nasty |

at least the whole system doesn't vanish on you. occasionally i'll undock or jump and everything but the open space is gone. i can fly around, dock, jump, approach whatever...just can't see anything. as soon as i reset, jump or dock it clears.
its very insignificant to me though...the positives in the game far outshadow any of those little bugs.

I don't quite understand your response so I'll just clarify.
yes I think local needs to be removed.
And yes I've never liked the portait version of text because you get less lines in a small chat box so I, like Hippo who I qouted, always turn to text and therefore never had a problem.

Then you have my apology, I thought your first statement was sarcasm and thereby a flame, and the second was a realisation that the bug he was talking about really did exist. My bad

hehe, no prob. Typed letters are a poor medium through which we all misread many things.
So.... how about a hijack?!
I think local should give you only people talking when they talk. Maybe a structure you can put at a POS that every 180seconds or so updates for "Friendly standings" pilots in that system the # of people only next to the local chat title. So you might see Local (2) And then figure out if it's a friendly or not.
And for all the people with the bug issue, hope you get that fixed and all, or start switching to text only.

And why precisely is this relevant to a BUG with local chat?
I'd like your ability to use local be removed for that one.

I get a bug with local where the text all shifts over to the left, as if the window were really thin. Have to resize the window to make it come back okay.

Surely if you have it in text only, the only thing you're missing out on is portraits at worst?
Hence if you have local as text only not only does local work as intended, there isn't actually any problem?

I get this all the time. I can't fix it, but it usually rights itself a few minutes later. Really irritating though - they oughta fix it asap.

Will compromise for now if infact switching to text only helps, but that isn't the issue. Its a bug that needs to be adressed. A feature that is not usuable without constant problems. If local shuts down, you no longer have contact with those people in the system. Sucks for a person new to EVE and isn't the best thing to happen to you on the first day.
Lots of new players like to go to Jita. Lag + Local probs... "Oh wtf, EVE is buggy!"

People type a lot in busy systems, local blinks yet nothing shows. That and additional channels close of their own at random after rebooting.
