I hear many Taranis pilots stating they can consistently beat Crows 1v1. How do you even catch them?
They're faster than you, and stay at the 11km sweetspot where their rockets do full damage and they can't get webbed. They're faster than me, I have no chance of catching them.
So, without resorting to faction mods (because then the counter-arguement is he can fit an expensive web too..) how does one kill a rocket crow in a Claw or Taranis who doesn't want to be caught?

Simple - make sure you are faster than he is. Whether it may be through nanofibers, overdrives or better MWD. -------------------------------

rails, drones, nanofibers, gist MWD, domination web, ....
lots of possibilities, some more feasible than other .

catching a crow is not the only problem... if you fight a rocket crow with rails, he can get under your guns, and even if he doesnt, you're seriously outgunned... Rocket plated crow is the toughest thing out there...You should really consider running instead of trying to catch it... :) Ison's notches |

Most ceptor fights happen at gates so whenever you're about to engage a crow in your taranis, be aggressive and 1 or 2 bursts of mwd will get you in webrange.
Also whenever you have to travel a fair distance before the fight you usually overshoot each other which basicly gives you enough time to web aswell.
90% of the time it's about reacting fast enough and by the time they decide whether to engage or not, its too late.
Also another way is moving away with mwd instead of moving to him, if he follows with his mwd, you turn around and approach him. He'll overshoot en get in webrange.

Ok so Taranis with a faction web might.. But Claw?! 2 medslots, if you don't use a web you'll never slow him down, if you don't fit an MWD you'll never catch him, if you don't fit a scrambler he'll just laugh at you and warp off.
Please show me i'm wrong

artillery claw? you will be going a hell of a lot faster so you can keep the traversal low (and the +50% damage mod + artillery = tex sex)
just a thought - haven't actually tried it myself

I hate fitting artys on my claw or stiletto. If there is a crow circling me. Then I just leave. No time for weak pilots.

They cant hit you if their using rockets from outside 10k and you dont want them 2... fly away and the rockets will burnout before they hit you.

That's what I would suggest but the problem of the fleeing target remains. You really have to motor directly away to keep that transversal down, but at the same time keep it in 20km scramble range. I guess you have to be sneaky with your speed, or try some serious micromanaged friggy flying and make straight runs at and past the crow to keep him within 20km.
Not gonna need many hits with 280 II's tho before it pegs it !! ....

tbh after a while micromanaging your speed and movement with minny ships becomes second nature :). If you don't fit a plate you will have the needed agility to keep the range (I've done it vs a blasterranis before). It's hard, but does the trick.
Of course, the other problem is keeping the mwd and 20k scrambler running for long enough
