Its possible... I think the best way is to slip the game CD under the Linux box.

Hey did Epiphany give up their zealot-like ways to join AF Holdings?

You can try running TransGaming Technologies' WineX, it runs OK on SuSe and Mandrake (I've never tested it on RH) and will allow you to run a range of games (no garauntees that EVE will work) WineX costs $69 as an alternative you can also just try running them under the latest version of wine, available from http://www.winehq.com. I have been able to run a lot of games just using Wine.
Most games seem to run about the same speed, (some a little slower, some a little faster). It's pretty stable as well.

I managed to get it to the character screen :) Then after that it fell over. That was using the directx based version of wine. You could try using something like VMWare, although I'm not sure what sort of speeds you'd get, I don't know how VMWare does its emulation.

Try getting the latest version of Wine from the CVS, it usually has the latest bug fixes and I have found it will actually run games that WineX won't.

i actually think wine might work with eve. The only problem with some games and wine is number one directx number two registry entries the game needs to run. I have a suse box myself but its real slow hehe wouldnt even consider trying. I just use it for ipchains, but i mean those guys that play ut2k3 on linux and stuff swear by it.
Just thinking now tho wine will make it ridiculously slow if it even works....those ut2k3s are offical ports and stuff

Edited by: Ezra on 11/09/2003 18:12:34 I've tried EVE with WineX, it didn't run. :(
That said, chances are good that a few versions down the line (for WineX), EVE might work with it. WineX has come a LONG way.
As to WineX's speed - You'd be surprised how fast it can be. I've heard in some specific cases (I think a Half-Life framerate test), Windows HL running under Wine was FASTER than under Windows on the same machine! Obviously an exception, but typically WineX doesn't incur that much of a performance penalty except at startup. (ugh, it's SLOW to start though...) ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |
