A slow clone is the idea that someone can have their mind scanned more slowly than the standard emergency transmission scan that liquefies your brain, and by doing said slow scan, the mind state can be maintained without killing the person being scanned. A related idea I have heard mentioned around these forums is the idea of just doing the standard scan but saving a copy of the data in addition to dumping the mind into a new clone (and that this could be done automatically on podding).
The idea being that this data can be stored so if theres an accident and someone dies away from a brain scanner or there is a malfunction, the mind state that was previously backed up can be put in a new body and only knowledge and memories from after the backup was made are lost rather than the entire personality.
I was wondering what CCP's stance is as far as capsuleers making backup copies of themselves. At the very least there has to be some ability to make a copy or the broker wouldn't have been able to function since he was known to use more than one body and often died away from a scanner, but I haven't heard anything on how that was accomplished. |

CCP doesn't really have a stance on it anymore, as far as I know.

This was at one time explicitly acknowledged in the EVElopedia, that particular reference has since been removed. However, Live Event characters have often implicitly acknowledged the existence of "soft cloning" as well - for instance, one was asked what would happen if he was killed at an event he would be attending in person, simply responded that he would re-clone. |

While soft clones are no longer explicitly listed in canon anywhere, as far as I know, it is generally considered a normal fact of life for the reasons Esna mentioned. The people who continue to argue against them are few and far between. At this point, it would be beneficial if CCP would just write a small flavor piece on them similar to the ship crew page in order to permanently settle it. Trust your veins. |
