As presented at fanfest, CCPs latest vision seemed very alliance level focused. There was no real indication as to what small groups, solo players and other lurkers can expect to get out of it.
I think one of the problems CCP faces is the perception that once this new space becomes available, the mega-alliances will walk in and take it all (much like what people thought would happen with hi-custom offices), and it is this perception that is dampening peoples enthusiasm for it.
Can the CSM suggest that CCP needs to consider re-framing the vision so it becomes more apparent what is in it for other player groups?

So solo players should be on equal footing with the efforts of thousands of players in a colossal task such as maybe building stargates & claiming new space? Sounds pretty reasonable. This user won the forums on 18/09/2013, then lost on 18/12/2013. |

I said nothing of the sort.
Given that solo players and lurkers make up the majority of subscribers, I think CCP should spend some time articulating what's in it for them. I can post on a forum, therefore I represent everyone.

That vision was as everything presented on Fanfest: shiny, promising and nowhere near reality which boils down to "legacy code" and issues existing at almost every step of Eve inhabitants. It is very nice as a high level abstract idea of "what we want" but by far shouldn't be treated as "what we will get". Because what we have to live with is clunky d-scan window and what we get is ESS. I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |

Folks --- We know how CCP & the CSM work because their history is just a repeat for the future. Their words fill our minds with great hope. Their trailers and artwork dazzle us with awesome eye candy. And when we update our clients with their latest development releases we get deployable modules, that help to do nothing. We get ships that have been re-calibrated to a new standard and vague new uses for us to go and discover. But mostly we just get to muddle along doing what we were before. Or another way to explain it is that the more changes are made the more everything remains the same.
But really the CCP group does work hard. EVE Online is CCP's sand box. -įThe sand is owned by CCP. -įWe just get to pay them a monthly fee to throw the sand at each other. -įGet over your thoughts that you have some influence on what they will add or do for you. |

The main problem I see with the Vision is that for the last 2 years CCP has presented a series of expansions which consist of a tweak here, a widget there, which do little if anything to resolve the ongoing big issues within Eve's core, and that seems to be their plan going forward. There's little to be excited about in the idea of building our own stargates if the system on the other end of that stargate is still subject to the same tedious and one-dimensional PvE, the same hamstringing of industry and dependence on the Jita umbilical cord, and the same perma-grind 'go blob or go home' sov system.
CCP has told us about the grandiose extension they intend to build on their house but with little mention of how they intend to fix the foundations holding it all up. Post on the Eve-o forums with a Goonswarm Federation character that drinking bleach is bad for you, and 20 forum warriors will hospitalise themselves trying to prove you wrong. |

Not to mention the fact that some of too-few the major projects in the lasts expansions were not asked nor needed by the community. Like the discovery scanner or the ghost sites.

I'm sure 5 years from now it will all come together and make perfect sense and we will all laugh and make jokes about those moments of skepticism and bitterness and... Oh, my PLEX stash will keep me subbed only for next 4 years I am not my skills but... http://eveboard.com/pilot/Schmata_Bastanold |

Seagulls actually have excellent vision, superior to humans. Their depth perception may not be great though. "I can hire one-half of the working class to kill the other half." |

We must have been at different events.
We have just received new content in the way of mobile deployable units. Units that are a godsend to pilots who want to eke out a toehold in the depths of space, where they can build a name for themselves.
What we do need, and which we have not received anything on, is a ship that uses these modules to full advantages.
To wit: a military version of one of the most useful ships ever to grace the space lanes of New Eden: the Orca.
Give us a ship that will take advantage of these units and that is adapted to the life in the danger zone and you will see Flamespar smiling like a baby that just saw mom preparing herself for the next feeding. Wow... I don't know whether that was the right image there.
Anyway:
Tl;dr: great content, needs new ship. |
