Edited by: Tentimes on 11/09/2003 21:19:29 At the moment a lot of people in my alliance are holding off on doing anything much due to the impending patch - a lot of people just log in to say "Hi" as there isn't any point in doing what they normally do as the patch is coming soon....
Some examples regarding myself - colour me surprised if this applies to other ppl too that have stalled their play:
(1) No point making any missles, torpedos etc as they are about to be a 1/10th of the min requirement, volume etc, so I have stopped pirate hunting and wasting missiles.
(2) I'm not buying another BS until I see how the changes pan out re weapons and slots.
(3) I'm not buying ANY minerals until I see if the roid spawn bug is fixed (so what I bought today isnt worth half that tomorrow)
(4) I'm not buying ANY big equipment because of the changes. It's not worth the risk.
(5) I'm not making anything - I don't know how useful my usual wares will be after the patch.
(6) I've stopped training specific skills as I haven't a clue what skill tree to head towards due to the BIG changes in skills coming.
I could go on.... but basically we chatted in our alliance chat channel tonight, and everyone is holding off on just about everything until the patch - consequently ppl are bored silly and not playing much.
WE NEED A PATCH!
It's silly just adding, adding, adding to your code. It would be better to do smaller patches, instead of HUGE ones that are bound to have bugs. You keep having to run scared of patching, as you daren't run them out on a Friday. Next week you daren't run it on a Wednesday etc etc -
Just patch it NOW and start doing smaller patched from then please.

Yeah I'm all up for the next patch, and wetting pants reading each new build and IN DEVELOPMENT section, but I'm not really logging in much basically because I'm waiting for it.
And the patch IS big and it changes a LOT of things, and there will, unavoidibly, be problems. This is why it's NEVER a good idea to release big patches, but one thing may tie into another, and that's why this patch is taking so long.
Either way, I do hope they just release it soon because I wanna play, but currently, have no reason to :( ------------------------------------------- If you kill them, they will die!

Heres a radical idea......
While you're all doing "nothing" on TQ why not log onto Chaos and see the changes for yourself then you will know whats coming and hence have a clue what to do back on TQ.
Who knows you might even feel inclined to submit a bug report and speed the patches journey from Chaos to TQ
P.S. Trust me you do not want them patching TQ too soon, there are some glaring bugs on Chaos that you don't want to deal with for real.

Popov - I salute those that play on the test server, but like most ppl, I couldn't be bothered.
I want to play for real. Please don't get confused - this isn't a big whine - I'm really glad of the changes! I just think it needs to be done in smaller increments so as not to cause such a shutdown/slowdown in the main server.
Right now in my alliance made up of over 50 corps in the Khanid region, people are just WAITING for the patch. I understand it's silky to just bring it out - I'm ust suggesting that we need something soon.
The longer it goes on, the bigger the patch gets, and the ,more difficult it is to actually implement it.
Anyone that programs wil know exactly what is going on here and how the patch keeps getting punted out. I hope they got good version control ;)

I feel the same way, no point in playing when so much is going to get changed.
I could buy a Raven and fit it out with the uberest launchers and build a gazillion missiles right now, but with the patch notes hovering infront of me it just feels like a waste.
Your 425mm Prototype I Gauss Gun perfectly strikes some nublar, wrecking for 1155.0 damage. |

next patch next week
this is written in the COMMENTS about that "Unclassified in-house dev animation"
Quote:
evetalon 11/09/2003 01:21:46 How about the next patch in general t0rf? Or will this next patch be the "soon" to come patch...kinda like a monster revamp of the game? BTW...thanks for taking the time to answer our questions.
t0rfiFrans 11/09/2003 01:24:05 Hopefully monday tuesday. That's what we are talking about in-house. It all depends on how it comes out of testing etc. We'd rather delay a patch a few days than put out a bugged patch. The outlook is good right now.

Applies to me as well, I'm trying to sell some stuff to get money. Meanwhile I'm killing NPCs in a frigate for fun.

I have played on chaos and yes I have seen many bugs that I would hate to have to contend with in Tranquility, however, the problem still remains that my "life" in Tranquility remains on pause. Skill training for one has become a mess as I do not know what skills I really need to focus on. Why make missles anymore? I am waiting on the patch to fix my lvl 2 BS which is extremely lacking in CPU. I am not the only one who is merely waiting for the patch to move on with his life and continue playing. I check in on Chaos every build, and see what has changed. For example, I stopped learning Weapon Upgrades, since the CPU on my Apoc will suffice for my setup, but instead started Engineering 5, which I will need if I want to use one PDS or RCU less.
There are a few ugly glitches on Chaos at the moment, but they are going to iron them out (I hope!).
And I would rather appreciate it if they made many small patches that such big patches... this is going to be the biggest patch since release.
Ciao, Aronis!

I'm completely bemused by this do u just sit around twiddling your finger of course everything can change but there is no profit with our risk. Personally i'm carrying on as normal as best i can i have checked on chaos from time to time so i'm not totaly clueless when the patch comes i have even mined myself an apoc which at time or writing looks rather good something that i would have missed out if i had done nothing. I would recommend that people carry on playing and be suprised by the patch as it can change at the last second.

Edited by: Jake Pliskin on 12/09/2003 03:55:28 I feel that with so many changes going into the new patch, ok saying it will be like playing a new game is perhaps a bit OTT.
What i have in the back of my mind is the last time, a patch with a lot of changes went on Tranquility there were big problems, hope that it goes smoother this time.
I did check Chaos earlier on with the latest patch build. Jumped in Thorax and went off to a roid belt in a 0.4 system, fighting the NPC pirates there, and the combat felt good.
Improved. Different visualisation on the drones and my single 250mm hybrid was dishing out some decent damage
I can't wait for the patch to go live.
Another advantage of logging onto Chaos and keeping in touch with what's happening there of course, when it does go live, the Chaos testers have an advantage on Tranquility, while everyone else spends some time getting used to the changes
Yep, i'm looking forward to next week |

Yes, don't you all be going and thinking everything thats in development will be coming in with the patch. The player owned equipment will not be coming in - we're still balancing and adding to it. -- Richard CCP Programmer. Anything said above is not the official line, but my own take or opinion. |

Quote: Skill training for one has become a mess as I do not know what skills I really need to focus on.
Now that's just silly.
95%+ of the skills currently on Tranq will not be touched *at all*.
NOT training any skills because you're not sure what will change is an excercise in stupidity.
If you train a skill, and it gets nerfed, d'oh - Oh well, your training time is wasted, although nerfs aren't 100% so that skill training is merely made less valuable.
If you don't train any skill at all and just sit idle - That training is 100% wasted no matter what happens with the next patch.
Yes, a lot is changing with the coming patch. Is that any reason to put life on hold? No. Go mine some bistot and sell megacyte at exorbitant prices while you can. Patch fixes the babyroid bug and mega prices drop? Oh well, bistot is still insanely valuable. ------------ Ezra Cornell pe0n, Xanadu Corporation |

I wrote this in my first reply to this post and it has happened 100% as I predicted. Now I'm not a psychic nor am I a wiseman, I just learn from experience. Now I'm not talking about personal experience developing an MMORPG, I'm talking about experience playing other MMORPG and reading news about them.
So why is it that CCP couldn't do the same? I told you guys, repeatedly, way back in BETA, that big patches are NOT a good idea. I said releasing patches on FRIDAY is not a good idea, but you had to find out that one the hard way, didn't you? I was right then, I am right now, and how many more time do I have to be right before you listen?
I HATE being right about bad stuff to a game I care about. PLEASE.. just.. stop making mistakes that 10 other MMORPG's made 2 years ago.
Gah.. I give up. ------------------------------------------- If you kill them, they will die!

To qoute myself:
"The longer it goes on, the bigger the patch gets, and the ,more difficult it is to actually implement it.
Anyone that programs wil know exactly what is going on here and how the patch keeps getting punted out. I hope they got good version control ;)"
Now they reap what they sow.
Smaller more progressive patches shoudl eb done - now delayed, whopping great, pile-of-doodoo patches
