Well, we are only a few years away from developing AI's based on synthetic platforms. When they are released what do you guys think about them playing games like EVE?
Would they be allowed? Or would it be considered "boting" An AI would have a massive advantage over a human while playing a game. Because they would be based in computers, they can make mathmatical and immoral calculations nearly a million times faster than people. They could fly a whole fleet at once in perfect unison, easily crushing any human fleet.
What do you guys think about this? Personaly, I think they should be allowed, to an extent. |

The future is here today. Goons have an advanced A.I. that we have named DBRB and we use it to lead all of our fleets to victory. The artist formerly known as Ladie Scarlet. |

Sorry, but we are still decades away from creating a reliable form of AI. In truth software development has changed little over the last 30 years, in some ways we have gone backwards in terms of efficiency. I don't believe make any significant progress until high quality and cheap superconductors are manufactured. |

When we eventually have an AI that powerful, it'll be used to 'enhance' our lives in ways we can't guess at yet!
I wonder what it will be like at art - maybe it could touch up all these sky boxes so we can have one per system |

cute as big blue and watson are, there is no need to worry about actual AI anytime soon its all parlor tricks still The American public's reaction to the change was poor and the new cola was a major marketing failure. The subsequent reintroduction of Coke's original formula, re-branded as "Coca-Cola Classic", resulted in a significant gain in sales, leading to speculation that the introduction of the New Coke formula was just a marketing ploy |

Silicon just doesn't have the capacity for true AI. Once we cross over into biological computing then we're talking. |

Unless we are unable to write code which can learn by itself, and write new code to enhance itself, i dont think it is a hardware problem at all. |

We do not fully understand how humans learn, never mind programming a computer to learn. Take language for example, although there are various competing theories on how we learn to communicate with each other on the whole it is still mystery to us. I think you overestimate the current extent of human knowledge. |

Irony?
I'm basically saying it's a knowledge and tool problem. I couldn't begin to imagine the processing power needed to create something that resemble an inteligent or even semi inteligent AI. And I'm unsure if it's a good idea in the first place, but thats another thing entirely. As it stands, it's in the realm of science fiction. |

No irony.
And we agree on all points, except that i think a super intelligent ai dont needs fast hardware. It just would be a super slow super ai. ;) |

Would be a waste of time when everything you have to do for biological computing is to have good sex
By the time is donne humanity will be around 200B so gess we'll have other issues than biological computing for intelligent apples, talking dogs or streap tease cats |

Moved from 'EVE General Discussion".
As to the question of future AIs playing EVE, I guess we'll have to make that call if and when they emerge.
