I am looking to buy my first Caldari Cruiser. Any opinions on either the Caracal or the Moa?
Thanks.

for PvE i belive missiles are far better so a caracal but they dont take much of a beating before they go pop - so missiles @ 50km :D

It depends really, but the moa is of course a bit "better" being a tier 3 cruiser. _____________________________________ meep meep |

I think both are good cruisers, just depends on what you're trying to do. L2s, either will do fine, tho I prefer the quicker style of the Caracal for those. Just make sure you can fire light missiles out of an assault launcher to 35-40km and you'll be fine for all L2s. (Assuming the rest of your skills are good.)

Moas can be pretty skill intensive if you want it to perform well and survive. That same level of performance and survival can be attained by hopping into a Caracal with low skills. The Moa does perform much better when you have the skills for it though.
If you're going to be missile specialized (Caldari ships mostly are), then I suggest you ignore the Moa and go Caracal, all the while training those missile skills hard. I know a few Caldy pilots who don't have a single point in gunnery skills. Their career is like Kestrel - Caracal - Raven - Cerebus.

Moa is Minmatar concept of ship building...
* mixed weapon systems * balanced number of mid and low slots that leave you with not enough room for either shield nor armour tanking
... "adapted" to Caldari way of thinking. That is, stripped from all things that actually make that work for Minmatar ships -- the speed, low weight, high damage output and primary weapons that use very limited amount of cap.
In other words, you're probably better off with Caracal >>;;

Saddest part is, a Caracal can easily out-range a Moa these days, and has more high-slots for tanking (or the odd target painter thrown in). So yes, a Caracal is far better than a Moa.
Cerberus vs. Eagle, on the other hand, is a slightly different story... -------------- What good are actions if there's no one to tell the tale afterward?

what about weapon upgrades and advanced weapon upgrades? they need gunnery 5 and without them u can struggle to fit T2 laucnhers and a good tank, my caracal has 5 Heavies II 2 BCU II's Medium Shield Booster II and a couple passive plates and thats about it, and i have Advanced Upgrades 4 sure i could lose the BCU's but i like the damage and my caracal can kill most Lv2 - Quality 11 missions pretty well.
As fo rthe choice then it just depends on what weapons u favor, i'm not great with turrets with the entire keeping stuff at raneg to get a good shot, i'm not a good games player tbh so missiles ar emy best friend so a moa would be useless for me but as fo rmy corp mate who has experice in using his turrets sinc ehe began and has T2 medium rails he loves his moa/ferox more than his missus and would surly take it to bed with him if he could.
both missiels and turrets have their pro's and con's but just look at ur skills and choose what u want, no point me sayign go for the caracal its amazing if u have used turrets since birth and are used to them, it's be like me askign the same question and sumoen tellign me moa is best i'd probs die hundred times over cos i cant hit broadside of a barn with turrets at present

Especially if you're new and low sp, I highly recommend the Caracal.
I've always considered the Gallente turret ships superior to the Caldari ones, our strength is missiles not turrets imho.

Just as an aside for you to think about...
Missiles are the most god damn boring thing to spam in PvE with. And I'm so glad I gave up the Caracal long ago for a turret boat, just to give me something (transversal) to do in battle.

LOL As was indirectly pointed out, you need Gunnery II to fly a Cerberus! So obviously these pilots have trained a few points in gunnery....
The Caracal in PvE is Eve on easy mode, like most missile ships. The Moa is a tougher ship, and can hand out more damage, but needs higher skills to use as effectively as the Caracal with a relatively lower amount of skillpoints.
So a Caracal is probably a better starting point. You can always sell it for what you paid for it later if you fancy changing.

Due to the current state of precision and fury missiles, I'd say the caracal is still better.
