anyone know how to make a program always start only using one processor under win x64? I remember seeing something about adding a '-cpu 0' to a shortcut, but that didn't seem to work.
ideas?

thanks, will take a a look at that. was hoping for a command line switch tho, prefer not to install 3rd party apps.

I can do that too, but it's just an annoyance having to do that everytime. plus I've been reading up on some problems with duel core / winx64 and certain apps have issues when started more than 1 processor. hance the cmd line starting the app with just 1 processor. sig. |

Edited by: Wulfstan on 27/03/2006 17:58:43 Are you sure that "affinity" switch is valid? I can find no mention of it in the CMD.EXE help on a W2K or XP system.
You might need a small command line prog to get it to work:
http://www.softtreetech.com/24x7/archive/42.htm http://www.appliedvisual.com/xcpu.htm
Either of those should do what you want. They look kosher enough, but vurus check them first etc. They are tiny and don't come with big nasty installers so will be unintrusive on your system.
Edit: I always forget to make links clicky first time around!

that is an M$ program taken from windows NT. works via the cmd line... still not sure if it will work with x64 though.. if you do try it can you post back? i would like to know.

yeah, that works. I'm using that exact cmd line to open apps now. i checked its changing the affinity with the usual task man > processes > set affinity...
open cmd and type start /? and it gives the switches for the start cmd, you should see affinity there. (at least i do under x64) sig. |

Ah, didn't realise it was from NT, havn't got time to try it today, perhaps later.
edit: thnx for the links btw wulf, they look promising. thing is tho, i'm sure an additional exe isn't needed. ah well, i'll keep googling and testing till something breaks ;-) sig. |

i use runfirst you just add it to the start of the file path in your shortcut and it works a treat.
So throw it in c: and make the file path c:\runfirst.exe "c:\eve\eve.exe" (that's where your eve is right?)
I don't have any problems running eve on both cores with x64. If you're having some kind of problem are you sure it's not being caused by something else?

Actualy you will probably find its problems with other programs funning on both cores. If i run BF2 on both i get kicked from the server for network problems, which is odd.
Also call of cthulhu has messed up gfx if its run on 2 cores. being able to set it to only run on 1 core is much better.
