I awoke today and found that my pc had decided to break itself. Darn thing won't even turn on. And to cap it all my housemate the wiz at comps smashed up his car on the way home today! Thankfully he was unhurt but sadly it means I am totally cut off!
Who else has had their EVE suddenly pulled from them and how did you cope?
ps Luckily i can use our network server to acess the forums which will act as my methadone for now.

I checked the eve-o forum for 18 hours solid and then realised maybe I should go fix the computer instead of living in the forums.

So there I was... I'm a Math Instructor by trade, both highschool and college level. The semester was over, and I was looking at a long summer. Life was good. I even had my end of year bonus check in the bank.
Then My Computer caught fire and died... well, not really fire, but there was burn insulation and an odd smell that needed to be vented out of the room...
Panic gripped me! I called my wife - she that would need to approve any purchase over $1.49 - and I told her her about the computer in the same whispered tones that one talks about the death of a very close relative. Her response was "Grow up!"
Here is where I should warn everyone to NEVER MARRY A LAWYER... To compound the problem, she is also an JAG attorney...
We don't have the money she said, and all I do is play 'that' game anyways. Excuse me, but did she say "we don't have the money?" The bonus check was for more than what I planned on spending. Great Gods of Progressive Education have rescued me.
A drive around Southern Arizona and I had a pile of parts, software and a few hours of work... Bad power supply - back to the store - upgraded Power Supply - 500W and I'm golden.
Even got a new Cable modem...
The whole schmeer was back together and on line, before anyone in my corp knew that I was not in the belts mining...
And the whole motivation was to get back on EVE ONLINE. It took me 2 weeks to get Maplesoft to give me another license for Maple 10 - didn't care about that. But EVE was a whole other story...
Later on - I replacced my laptop for a newer model - that just happen to run EVE nicely. I've even logged on to change skills in the middle of lectures on Differential Equations without missing a beat on Predator/Prey models.
So unless there is a high level nuclear burst over the Northern Hemisphere, I'm good to go for my EVE Fix...

This is a major issue. I suggest you encase your laptop in a Faraday cage.

Even then, it's only a 50/50 chance of the IC's Surviving. But that is going to be the least of our worries.

Indeed. We would also have to worry about the network in between our computers and the EVE servers.
Which brings up another problem. Are the EVE servers protected from high level nuclear bursts? I know if there's a nuclear war the last thing I would want is for EVE to go down. Maybe it would be best if CCP installed some hardened bunkers containing twenty thousand or so EVE-enabled computers. If war threatens we can all retreat to Iceland and continue playing EVE in the bunkers.
