Hello guys and girls and CCP o/
I have an idea for changes at the Drone assist mechanic. At the moment is it so that a ship needs drone bandwidth to support drones for his own usage. So...then why can one ship controll in a large fleet over 1000 drones with an bandwidth demand from over 25.000 Mbit/sec? You will tell...what is the problem? The only thing the "one" must do is to say the drones where they have too shoot. I agree with you in this point. But...for all...to say "shoot this or shoot this". Thats all is communication between the controller and the drone.
So my idea grasp this fact to change it all. I say...forward some of the bandwidth demand the drones need to the one who control all the drones. He must communicate with all this drones so he must have more bandwitdh or he can not control all drones.
For example:
We have a fleet with 200 dominixes. With an amount of 1000 drones and a demand of 25.000 MBit/sec bandwidth. The idea is to forward 10% of the bandwith demand of every drone to the controller. So that for example the dominix can MAXIMUM control 50 Drones when he has no drones out. When he has one drone out by himself he has a maximum of 40 drones he can controll.
Another example:
We have a slowcat fleet. 255 Carriers with a total amount of 2250 drones and a bandwith demand of 63.750 Mbits/sec. So forward 10% of this to the controller...you need 15 Carriers with full drone bandwith to controll all the drones.
In the end you have in large battels much more organization to run those sort of fleets. And smaller fleets are not so much effectet by it. If this don't work than increase the bandwith forward and increase the amount of controller you need.

Most simple solution would be that a pilot can only be assisted by as many drones as they have levels in advanced drone interfacing (I.E a pilot can control 10 drones max, 5 of their own and 5 assisting)
I think this is reasonable since in my view the assisted pilot must be giving the assisting drones some kind of telemetry on target selection, but I don't really care what the lore reason would be, just that this would make big drone fleets work as a fleet once more rather than one member being the trigger for x thousand guns.
This uses an existing skill that would then also have a reason to be trained outside of carrier use. |
