I want to know what would be quicker for killing an enemy.
The 125mm Railgun has a Faster shot than the 150mm Railgun but the 150 has a higher damage rate than the 125, do these cancel the each other out when you are working out the time it takes to kill somthing?

Ok so the 125 Tracks faster, are you saying that 125 and 150 Kill at the same rate and the only dfference is there range and track speed?

All the stats for the weapons are in the item database.
125mm Railgun: 2x damage mod, 3.25s rate of fire
2/3.25 = .615 * (ammo damage) = damage per second ---------------------------------------------------- 150mm Railgun: 2.75 damage mod, 4.25s rate of fire
2.75/4.25 = .647 * (ammo damage) = damage per second ------------------------------------- (.647-.615)/.615 = .052
150mm will give you a 5.2% increase in base damage per second over the 125mm.

But do those calculations include reload times? I'm pretty sure that over time the DPS drops even further because the 150mm has to reload more often. So unless you need the range of the 150s the 125s are better thanks to easier fitting and tracking. |

I like the 125mms they're a good long range all purpose rail gun, the way I think about it is the 150mm rails are larger and deal more damage but the cost of that is speed. If a target gets in close 150mms wont be as effective at putting the target down than as say a 75mm
its a bit of a trade off really, hope that helps

The 150mm railgun gets about 127.5 seconds of firing assuming rapid fire 5... I'd say that it doesn't really have that big of an effect on dps, even in agent missions/npcing (you reload when closing range between groups). --- Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising up every time we fail. - Emerson |

on a harpy, 125s and 2 damage mods (possible due to lower fitting) are better than 150mms with one damage mod and one tracking mod.
the 125s have much lower range, but better damage and tracking (even with a tracking mod)

You've forgotten about reload times, and the fact that 150mm's will probably hit less due to poorer tracking. They will also have less "quility" hits due to the lower tracking.

What about the distance thing, I think you are better to be using 150's because you can get a furthur range than the enemy (If you can fly resonable fast). 150's aren't a huge DPS difference to the 125's so if you can keep out of gun range using 150's then that is a huge bonus. Am I correct?

It depends on what you're hunting. The 150's will give you better range & you can fit heavier ammo to increase DPS even more. I use them to kill cruisers & destroyers. The 125's use less energy & allow you to fit other high PG modules. These are primo on frigates. In a Catalyst, 8 125's will fit where only 6 150's fit while allowing other systems like AB & damage or traking mods.

I find 150s on my harpy, a web, and 2 dmg mods work well.
The only things I need the web for are things that even 125s will have a hard time hitting.
