As things stand we know that when you are jammed your sensors are temporarily overwhelmed thus you cannot establish a lock. But from my reading of it your guns should still be able to fire if you bypass the targetting computer until your sensors are re-established.
This could be done by locking all your guns into a central forward aiming position, calculating the distance to the target (which is always displayed even when jammed) and converging all fire on a central point at that distance.
In game terms a crosshair representing the central ship axis could be introduced when bypassing the targetting computer and the pilot would have to line up the enemy ship in the crosshairs and fire manually. While much less accurate and almost exclusively a short range option, since you would need to be able to see the ship directly, this could still allow the jammed ship to be more active until their targetting systems are back online. This would also allow smaller and more agile ships (whose sensor strengths are usually low to start with) to play a bigger role when facing repeated jamming since they could more easily 'aim' at a bigger less agile target. Conversely it would be difficult for a big slow moving ship to keep a small ship in its sights.
The physics of this proposal is sound and even todays computers can easily calculate simple triangle mathematics so surely its possible in the technologically advance world of Eve. Like anything a change as profound as this would have consequences beyond EW so would have to be carefully considered.
Happy to hear you thoughts.

But than we would need a better way of steering your ship instead of the double click way. or you could ofc. press aproach and the target ship is always right in front of you.

Carry FoF missiles and then it won't be a problem.

I'm proposing this as an alternative method for gunships rather than missile boats. I know FoF are a suitable solution when you are jammed and have missiles.

hmm... Trouble then is that the twitchy-clickers would get a combat advantage & lag becomes a more significant factor in combat. I could see "unguided" gun firing becoming a tactic of choice for the long range gun users that have been closed on, as manually leading your target becomes an option. How can you fire without a lock to start with? That's the silly part about FOF missiles, the idea is to fire and they will find their own target. Currently you can't fire anything unless you have a lock so FOF missiles are just low damage standard missiles.

FoF missiles have built in targeting systems to allow them to fire when you can't lock a target. http://www.eve-online.com/itemdatabase/shipequipment/ammunitioncharges/missiles/ Forum: A place where ideas come to prove their worth. Portraits rock!
