I've suddenly run into a problem to day with Eve just suddenly freezing. It completely disables my machine and I have to do a hard reboot. This has not happened before. No new programs have been installed. I have: a) Disabled IEEE1384 networking b) Defragged machine c) Did a complete reinstall of the client d) Made sure that I had updated video and audio drivers
It also appears to be happening at a regular interval of around ~5 minutes after entering into the game.
Any advice or directions to other threads concerning this issue with possible fixed or workarounds would be appreciated.
TIA.

Did your 'complete reinstall' delete the cache, or did you just over-write the existing client files?
If the latter, try deleting eve\cache\machonet

I completely wiped out and reinstalled Eve.
This is a brand new box (6 months old) so I would be surprised if it needed new chipset drivers.

Then be surprised! Seriously, 6 months is not brand new for a computer, and if there are updated drivers out for your mobo at least give it a go. Also make sure your computer is clean from all the nasty stuff by running adaware and spybot.

Did you just disable the network under network connections or the drivers under device manager as well?
Do you have an Audigy2?
Could we get the rest of your specs as well? ------------------------------------------- Hard work MAY pay off later, but procrastination always pays off now! |

I have also had similiar problems. My computer was freezing up completely and winamp would completly stop functioning, after reading some of these forums I went ahead and disabled the IEEE 1394 and the Game Port Device in Device Manager. Now what I am running into is the game freezing up and the current song kind of getting hung up however it doesn't just stop. (So progress?? I dunno, but I feel a little more confident). I can occasionally get on and play for 3-4 hours straight with no problem then other times I last a good 3 minutes before hard reboot is required.
My system specs are as follows:
Windows XP Pro AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 1.00 GB RAM ATI Radeon X1300 Asus Mobo 8AN SL1 Premium *I think those would be all the important specs
I would love to get any helpful suggestions.
*FYI-I have updated my Catalyst Drivers to 6.3, my Mobo chipset, just did a complete reinstall of windows and reinstall of the game.

Hmmmmmmm, this seems familiar. My problem was being caused (appearently, so far so good) by my screen saver trying to come on. I turned off my screen saver and power management, and have had pretty good sucess. Its worth a try.

This sounda lot liek a problem i'm having.
When I run eve (exefile.exe) it comes up and seems playble, however it seems to have a memory leak, and slowly slowly eats up my ram, till Ic na't play any longer, if I don't take care of it, the system will eventually become completely un-responcive, and then I have to do a hard reboot.
Netx time your playing, hit CTRL + ALT + DEL and select "Task Manager" then check to see how mcuh ram EVE is taking up, it shoudh;t be taking up more then 100-200 MB though it used ot take up even less, if it's taking up alot more or evemn if it's starting lower and you can literally sit there and watch it increase, thats a memory leak. We need more peopel reporting this as such if this is in-fact your issue. Please Check. ~Q

This is Memgis^^^
Thanks for the suggestions, I started up the game and found that it is using around 155-165 MB. It crashed before I could alt-tab out, but I just tabbed back in when it was displaying 158 MB and then it crashed instantly, so I don't know if my problem lies in a mem leak, although, I am still going to leave this option open since I really am completly stumped on this one.
I am able to play other games just fine, including WoW, Call of Cthulhu, and BF2 so I want to say that it must be Eve. But, it may just be something with Eve and my connection that are not getting along. Though, if that was the case I would assume that Eve would just kick me back to the connection screen not lock up the whole system.
On a side note my CPU is running around 33¦ C and Mobo at 29¦ C so those are not an issue what-so-ever. Temp wise anyhow.

I wonder if it's a background task maybe? Have you gone through Start -> Run -> msconfig and cleaned out that list? Some stuff sneaks into there every now and then (those are the programs that automatically load when windows boots in case you were not aware) that can interfere with things.
I've noticed that Mozilla pauses my system and I use it when I play Eve. If I get a pdf, video or something like that my system will freeze up for a bit (my winamp still plays though). I close Mozilla and it stops...
Of course, I'm running Eve, a bunch of other stuff and using the remaining CPU for Folding@home ------------------------------------------- Hard work MAY pay off later, but procrastination always pays off now! |

Yeah I will certainly try not using Mozilla havent really thought of that but it does take up quiet a bit in the way or resources in my opinion, but then again it is a wonderful browser!
Also I just checked out the MSCONFIG to see if there was anything I could adjust and did so accordingly so I have my fingers crossed. I really hope not to be coming back to these forums unless it is to thank everyone and ask where to send my countless ISK after 7 whole days of staggered game play (Note sarcasim).

Well, at least I see many other are having the same problem, it would be nice to have some kind of answer from CCP, I mean, paying for a game you can not play is not what I call exactly thrilling, today it froze twice during a heated battle, lost like 1M in T2 drones for when I re-log the drones are gone, fortunately did not lose the ship... yet, but can not risk it any longer

By the way, is not Mozilla, I also thought it could be the cause for in the past I saw some CPU battles between Mozilla and Eve, but even when EVE is the only program running, it sooner or later hangs, and once it hangs, the frequency increases to a point you can not do anything.

Ah! something else I noticed, 95% of the time EVE hangs when entering or leaving warp, too frequent to be coincidence? I also posted more sympthoms in another thread, can't remember where

Well, the only time Eve has been hanging for me is with Mozilla and that was only tonight (Had quite a few windows open as well). Other than that I've been fine. But this is with 2 gigs of RAM so that offers some more room to play with.
I'm wondering if it is a RAM issue of sorts. Until I fixed my freezing issue with my Audigy2 I noticed I most often crashed going into warp as well. Could be a bit of shotty code causing this but it would be too hard to tell as I don't work for CCP and can't see the code
I'll see if I can think of anything else to try (in an important storyline kill atm ) and will post if I can think of anything. In the mean time if you want to try the memory cleaner (as was suggested above) you can try this one... MaxMem
I don't think it will help for the long term but it might be a temporary solution if you need to get your Eve fix.
Also, could I get the system specs of the systems with these issues. Might help in trying to figure out what the problem is.
Specifically RAM, Videocard, CPU, and SoundCard, extra info is appreciated as well though ------------------------------------------- Hard work MAY pay off later, but procrastination always pays off now! |

after reading all the post and replys I thankful it is not just me who is having problems. My computer hangs when I am warping in or out of a system, it is totally random. I could go 1-300 jumps before it happens.
I am running a 2.5ghz amd, 1gh ram, radeon 9250 gfx card with a 2mb internet connection.
If any one has any idears please let me know ?

Edited by: ZZandra on 04/04/2006 15:52:15 Edited by: ZZandra on 04/04/2006 15:51:43 I get this quite often as well....comp just hangs....sometimes after exiting or entering warp, but 100% of the time after being afk in a station for a long time. (and I have shut off the screen saver and energy saving thingy) A lot more hangs in the last few days. Computer just totally hangs...have to manually reboot it...and then sometimes the monitor still says no signal and I have to manually reboot it again. I have a pretty new computer. Less than 3 motnhs old. Dual Intel 3.0 processors + x600 Radeon 256mb graphics card. I think it's the graphics card, but I have no clue what to do about it, except yanking it out and putting in a different card which I do not want to do right now. Oh and I play with no sound on...since this first started happening about a month ago. Oh I also play with no sound on...haven't since this first started happening.

I am now getting the same problem. I have 3 systems. 2 older ones are fine. 3 month old system gets the problem.
Dual core intel processors. X600 gfx card.
I am going to update video drivers and chipset. If still the same it will be time to run DX Diags. Log server and send in a petition with all the data I can get.

I haveing a problem like the ones you mentioned. But it isn't when i warp it is when someone is firing a laser or any turret really near me. I can be fighting a single rat by myself and lag to about 1 fps ( frame per second ) even in roid belts I lag when a mining laser goes off. I also lag when attepting to use the browser but it is massive then. I have a X1300 ATI fx card 2 gig of ram and a cable connection

Client hang here too. that's horrible, computer freeze often after changing system. this issues is very dangerous espescially when u had raid 0 sata config. this is the 3rd time i had to reinstall windows because eve make crash computer on data write. first time i have used a backup to reinstall, second time i have reinstalled windows with new partition always same issue after one week, third time reinstalled again and always same issues... when eve crash hdd led is always active never blinking.
i have tryed to find what is the problem memtest ok prime95 ok hdd test ok too.. try to use different motherboard/sata driver issues still here... try to get same issues while using other apps like windows media encoder to see if hard drive are defective but never get it again, but with eve i always get this issues some day after system restoration. i have also tryed to reisntall eve but i'm not supposed to resintall a game every week to be sure it will works. No way to get a dump cause when eve crash it corrupt everythings
This issues destruct Local settins/apps data almost every time. Thanx the god backup arrays are very fast, but this MUST be fixed but if this is like audigy eax issues we will never see a correct fix before chicken had tooth..
here is my configuration if ccp want to test it (but yeah this require a very long test) msi k8neo2 nf3 250 amd 3000+ venice corsair pc3200 2x512 cmx-ll 2xSeagate ST3120827AS in raid 0 mode POV 6800 128 audigy 4 pro all this stuff with last driver (nforce 5.11,forceware 84.21)

I've had the exact same problem. After this last patch, my computer would completely freeze, usually occurring during combat and forcing me to pull the power. Interestingly enough, I have had no problems prior to the latest patch release and have not added/changed any software or hardware. I ran some other games for several hours such as BF2 and encountered no problems. After exercising all feasible options, I disabled the sound in game and since then I haven't had a single crash.

hmm after some investigation. I think corrupted drivers must be involved in this problem
so reinstall it can be a solution but not a real FIX i don't know what is corrupting our file but regarding to what we are doing when we get it, eve must take his place in this problem.
But this is very weird after driver reinstallation everything's working fine but i'm quite sure one week later we will get this error again... how can you explain it? i have played to many other game during last months and i have never see this kind of error anywhere.
if a gm which camps forum had an idea it would be much apprecied.

Im having a similar problem lately. All of a sudden Eve locks up my computer and i have to do a hard reboot (rested button). I didnt change anything on my system, and it completely took me by surpise, because up untill then my machine was running nicely. At least as nice as it can get with a AMD XP 1700, 512MB RAM and a Sapphire Radeon 9500 64MB. Maindboard is Leadtek K7NCR18D Pro
I tried the following countermeasures: - Install newest graphics and chipset drivers - Defragging machine - checked my RAM and HD for errors - complete reinstall of the client - deleting cache
Now i can still log on to Eve, but it locks up completely after 10sec to 5 minutes.
I then disabled the sound in the prefs.ini ( audio = 0 ), which first seemed to help but then it locked up too.
Lockups look like this: First the open windows wont work, i cant move nor close them, i cant alt-esc to windows, and then after a few more seconds the sound (if activated) stopps and reboot is all i can do.
Now i an out of ideas and open for suggestions...

Same problem here. I'm testing 14 days trial, the game seems nice and actractive, BUT
The game simply locks my pc. Pc is totally unrensponsive, 100% freezed, i can just hard-reboot it. Never been able to play more than 1 hour, usually the games freezes my pc in less than 5-10 minutes.
I have tons of software and games, and they all work 100% perfect. EVE ONLINE just DOESN'T.
I repeat, game seems really nice, but i wonder HOW CCP EXPECT ME TO PAY FOR A NICE GAME I CAN'T ACTUALLY PLAY.
Reading forum seem a lot of people have this problem, so keeping asking cutomer to reinstall-upgrade-update-polish-test-tweak IS RIDICOLOUS.
THE PROBLEM IS EVE ONLINE, NOT MY PC, DUDES.
FIX THE DAMN PROBLEM OR NO ONE WILL EVER PAY FOR A GAME WHICH HANGS SYSTEMS EVERY 5 MINUTES. SOONER OR LATER IT WILL CORRUPT WIN FILES AND I DONT WANT TO **** MAY WIN INSTALLATION AND LOSE MY DATA.
CCP WAKE UP OR GET LOST!!!!!!!!!!

The issue of EVE locking up PCs has been around for months now. I'm one of the 'victims'. I havn't been able to fix it, and believe me I have tried everything including fresh windows installs.
THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY A BUG IN EVE.
The only fix that worked for me is to play eve on my laptop (far from ideal). If any of the other fixes work it's more by luck than judgement. The root cause is a bug in EVE, I've been waiting months for a fix. This bug seems to affect all types of PC - Intel, AMD, low spec and high spec. Dont listen to the plonkers who rant on about 'your pc is out of date because you don't have 2 terabytes of RAM' - more ram and a faster PC will only make the bug work faster :)
Sorry this doesn't help much.

There is a possibility that i've found out what is the problem, at least on my pc.
I have a HP pda connecter with his docking station to the pc.
EVE hangs even if i kill pcsync, the utility than syncronize pda with pc.
But i just played 2 hours without problems. I killed pc sync AND took off the pda from his docking station.
I admit i have to do some more testing to confirm this was the freezes cause, but the fact is that i had a 2 hourd hangs-free game this mornin.
I will let you know any development
cheers
