I'm not disputing that the drone combat interface has made great strides in the last few years.
You can organize your drones however you want to.
You can see the hp of your drones.
etc.
However, i think it could still use a little work.
I think there could be a couple of features added to them.
"Attack on aggression" would make the drones engage only when the host ship or drones themselves are aggressed.
"Passive" meaning they would only engage only said locked target and would return to your ship after its destroyed (much like it is now as a default.)
Also a "launch and engage" is needed i think so you can just click your drone group once and not two or three times to launch and then attack a target. Also there would be a "launch" setting so have the option to do as its set up now.
just a few ideas. I'm kind of out of the loop with drones sometimes and maybe some of this is already being done. would like some input from you guys it these are good or bad ideas and why.
Also, would like to hear your ideas on how you would like to improve the combat drone interface.

drones should not have two "windows" when they are out and inside ship that's totally ******** and useless.
there should be group that has some kind of color indicator WHATEVER that tells you are they outside ship instead of jumping around the windows for no reason. |

A nice addition also would be to be able to see the health bars on the drones when they are sitting in the drone bay. "War is not measured in terms of who wins or loses, who is right or wrong.-á It is measured in terms of who survives." |

I was about to start a post here regarding similar enhancement, so I'll just make a suggestion in refinement of the OP instead of starting a new thread.
Regarding the 'launch and engage' command, I think the engage / return and orbit / return to bay commands should stay unaffected, and a new series of commands be added in regards to launching. This would encorporate multiple launch commands and tie them into groups, so that you can map hotkeys to launch the drone group you want active based on target selection:
Launch drone group 0 Launch drone group 1 Launch drone group 2 Launch drone group 3 Launch drone group 4
This way, we get a mapable 'launch' key that doesn't disregard drone groupings used on boats with large enough drone bays to accommodate different groups, and allows you to do things like launch all your explo drones in one group.
The command will launch that group up to max bandwidth, and if there are still more drones in that group left in bay due to bandwidth limits, pressing that group's launch key again will launch the remainder (in the event an active drone/drones in the group is destroyed and more bandwidth is now available). |

I would like to see:
A. Health of drones in bay. B. Repair drone option to engage my own ship. C. Option to "Launch and Engage". D. Label system instead of group system, so I can have the same one drone under two labels. E. Advanced instructions like the aggressive/passive mentioned earlier.
Thanks! |

Support everything in this thread.
A few more things: - A setting for drones to auto-support ship weapons. I.e. the drones will attack whatever target the ship's weapons/ewar are used on, but won't automatically engage aggressors. - If you launch your drones after a ship starts attacking you, they should automatically engage that ship without being told (if they're set to aggressive). Currently, drones only auto-attack if they're idling at the moment when an aggressive module is activated against the host ship. - Right clicking on a fleet member in the watchlist should give the option to order all drones (or any launched group) to assist or guard them. This would save trying to find that fleet member's name in the terrible alphabetic drop-down menu. |

And another thing...
Why can't I tell fighters to assist a fleet member in the same way I'd do with drones? Assigning fighters means the fleet member can't use their own drones, because they have full control over the fighters - fine. But why don't fighters have the option to just 'assist' other ships, and just do their own thing?
While I'm on the subject of fighters, please, please give them better (actually, just 'some') AI. |

Lower priority idea: In the behavior options (aggressive/passive) have a behavior to auto-retreat to drone bay after X damage. |

Could be possible. Not sure how it helps anyone but macros though. And you already have health bars for drones.
Good idea though. |

I want rid of the right-click menu system. It takes too much time to work and is too fiddly for combat. (Or, I have stupid fingers.)
I'd like to see some great chunky buttons above the modules somewhere. Engage target, return and orbit, return to bay and maybe a couple of customisable "launch x" buttons (lights, mediums, heavies, group 1, etc). Oh, and "rep me" for rep drones
Buttons to flip aggressive/passive and other behaviour toggles would be nice too. |
