What the hell is that about. I've decided to start afresh but all my characters slots are taken up.
When I say "What the hell is that about" I know damn well what it's about.
Corp thieves transfering to an alt then deleting their thief character. So I guess I have to suffer 'cause CCP have implemented some sort of system to stop people cheating.
How **** is that?

No. But it's only just stopped me from doing what I wanted to do.
My point is that it's like giving the whole class detention 'cause one kid misbehaved.
If a player has been a bastard and not played in the spirit of the game then ban them. Don't make the rest of us suffer.

Maybe you should put more thought into your characters before you make them. -Boogles- |

My point is .......
Because a VERY small minority of players choose to act like complete tossers and steal stuff from corporations without accepting the consequences. I am being punished by not being able to empty one of my character slots and start a new character.
Whether I didn't think about the characters I've got is irrelevent. I seems to me that CCP should track down the players who use underhanded tactics and ban them. Not implement a system that affects me when I've done nothing wrong.

Quickly compare the amount of effort it takes for each of CCP's options here:
Individually track down every single corporation thief and ban them. -or-
Make it more difficult for everyone to do it by putting in a few lines of code.
Now can you see why they did it? --------------- I used to be in the FA. I like cookies. Eve Radio is teh pwn. |

Actually.. it should be 5 days instead of 5 hours to delete.. WTF is the point in making an alt that you want to delete in a couple hours anyway unless you have sinister motives.

Perhaps they could send me a few log files. I can look over them while I wait to be able to delete my characters.
Anyway The Premierships gonna be on soon so I've got bigger fish to fry.
In case you're interested Folkestone Invicta beat Raynes Park 0-2 in the second qualifying round of the FA Cup. Prize money for getting through ú2250. That'll cover our wages for a week.

*wonders what profession others than thieves need to make a numerous amount of characters, and then reflects on why exactly the original author is doing just this and voicing opposition to the penalty*

Don't start fresh. I will repeat. DON'T START FRESH
The people who started this game first already have one huge mega massive gigantic *******ing lead on skillpoints, don't restart. You can only be a newbie once, after that its just boringly doing everything again.
I restarted, and regret it.

Edited by: Captain Xpendable on 14/09/2003 01:16:43 Nothing wrong with starting fresh, especially if you make a noob mistake like I did and put points into charisma. After a couple of months I couldn't tolerate that I wasn't getting the most out of the attributes I was actually using. So I rerolled a couple weeks back and may reroll again as I'm not to sure about this version. ---------------------------------------------- "Let me guess, my theories appall you, my heresies outrage you, I never answer letters and you don't like my tie."

In case anyone is wondering if this actually helps reduce "corp theivery" at all, the answer is no. Not to mention it is part of the gameplay to steal and sabatoge and even spread propoganda about corps..but here is the reason why this is a futile attempt and only serves to annoy the average player, just like how Concord only accomplishes to kill innocents then pirates.
Robbing a corp requires time, be it a few days if they corp has dumb officers, or a few months till an officer grants you access. All of which takes more then 5 hours, so yes, you can still rob a corp, transfer items, and then delete it.

I still believe the way to help reduce corp thievery is to make it like the skill training.
You can have 3 charecters but only one can belong to a corp at any one time.

At least make it so alts need to reach a certain amount of skillpoints other than the bare necessity to rent offices. This to avoid having people make alts to buy out competition.

yes they introduced the ability so they can more easily track alts, then they decided that stealing form corps was actually a valid part of the game, so even though they have the ability to track said alts, they don't, and don't care to. Tom B did suggest at some stage they make make money laundering and tracking available through agents, but this isn't coded yet, nor is it going to be any time soon. So theives prosper, as the in game police (concord) do absolutely nothing about.
This point sticks in my throat a little bit (not as much as Joshua and Annoing would like to, but they don't get too) as my original corp suffered such a loss, when a brother of one of our quitting players signed in with his account transferred all the isk and minerals to his own account and subsequently deleted the account. This was specific use of an alt, and would in fact be illegal since is was different CC cards for the separate accounts and as he did it without permission, but CCP couldn't determine he logged form a different facility/site/computer, and thus didn't do anything.

This is why Laws and rules exist. Because there will always be at least 1 person, if not many more that will take advantage of any situation if there are not enough rules to prevent them from doing what ever it is. The masses will always suffer from the actions of the few. This is the root of all laws.

Stealing from corps is a legitimate part of the game. I've got no problem with that.
BUT
You must be prepared to accept the concequences. If you need to lay low for a while then do that. The heat might come off eventually. Just don't delete your alt, deleting your alt after a corp theft is just to rubbish for words.

What did you have to do that was so important you couldn't wait 5 hours? To be honest if it was that important it probably should be increased to 5 days like someone suggested.

Thanks for clarification Cat, Corporation Thiefing (which I neither like nor dislike - I have been a victim of it) is part of the game. The FAQ cites "spying" as being part of the gameplay experience.. I would classify it as such. If a company takes security seriously (which I now do), then this practice would have limited impact.
I don't think people should be banned for it.
