Edited by: Philip Adams on 01/04/2006 22:09:05 I downloaded again EVE from that website to put in on my other machine. As soon as I start its setup I receive the following message (I have no antivirus) : The installer you are trying to use is corrupted or incomplete. This could be the result of a damaged disk, a failed download or a virus.
You may contact the author of this to obtain a new copy.
It may be possible to skip this check using the /NCRC command line switch (NOT RECOMMENDED).
I download the file twice (every time same error).

Gee... do you think that there might be a connection between the first sentence and the second one quoted above?
What do you think it might be?

I too have had this happen. And no it is not a virus, nor is it the eve execeutable your downloading. I have also had other programs I download become corrupt after dl. I think I may know why, but need to ge a little more more information from you.
I am using a SY-K8USA Dragon Ultra Black motherboard from Soyo along with its built in SATA controller and a Seagate SATA harddrive. I am extremly curious to know if you are using the same board and perhaps even the same manufacturer for your harddrive. This is with the windows XP operating system installed.
Also, I did not have a problem while using windows 2000 with this setup. So even if your motherboard and/or harddrive aren't the same as mine, I will make a leap and say its our 'version' of windows XP we are using. And I hope you understand me without my having to say what I mean when I say 'version' of windows XP... So the fix, if I am right, would be to 'find' another 'version' of windows XP.

I have had tis happen on other things.and it culd be cosed by a few things 1. get an antivirus avg has a good free one Linkage and get a good spy ware remover cus if you serf the net at all you have stuff you dont want on your pc trust me I know 2. try DL it at a non-peak time when the net is not to busy. 3. DL it to a difeant folder on your Hard Drive or another hard drive all together. (culd have a bad secter on your HD) and dont forget to delet the corupted on not just save over it 4.see if you can find it on a difeant server I am shure you culd find it on one site or another or on one of the legitimate P2P sites NOT one of the ones that you get the illagal stuff from
hope this helps

That would fall under "serves you right", IMO. Folks using that "version" are the reason my job got sent to another country.

If you use a downloader like getright, sometimes it misses a vital bit between chunks. It's a known bug with all of them, most likely the way Windoze handles putting files back together since it can happen to any of them, and the only way to solve it is a re-install of the downloader.
I had exactly the same problem with Gozilla, Getright and another one (can't recall the name). A re-install solved it every time.
