In eve (as in real life) it is possible to have cosmetic surgery (for a fee), resulting in the change of your appearance.
In real life you can get a name change.
Martin Sheen's real name: Ramon Estevez Ashley Judd's real name: Tyler Ciminella
Even common folk can get thier name changed...
My suggestion: Allow character name changes for a fee similar to the portrait changes. Perhaps you could create an "Alias" tab similar to the employment tab of the character profile showing the old names and the dates they were changed. Perhaps even place the "alias" underneath the name on the character photo. You could still have that person show up if the old name was used as a search in the database, and you could make the old name unavailable. I'm not sure what percentage would be interested in this, but if you charged $25.00 per name change and had roughly 10% of the gaming population request it that would be over a quarter of a million in revenue there.
I have seen the Arctic Circle... And it is round. |

what about buddy list though? one reason why some people want to chnage their name is so people will think they are someone else...other don't so how would you make it so some don't know about your name change, but others do? -------------------------------------------------- Matt Bellamy is god. EVE is heaven. The algebraist is the bible.

Well, I imagine you'd have to go through a similar routine as you do when you change email addresses.
Emails could be sent out to everyone who has this person on thier Email:
Example: Valium Summer has recently changed his name to "insert new name", Please update your friends list.
This way, people thinking they could do some evil deed against thier corporation and simply change thier name would not be able to without thier new name being known. And again ... charge a decent fee for this so it isn't taken lightly. I know a couple people who hate thier character names or have ideas for better ones. I don't think everyone would be rushing out to pay 25 bucks to change thier name, only the people who are genuinly unhappy with the current one they have, for whatever reason.

why to do so outside the game? its not fair since the name is serving you inside a game. you should be able to change your name with game money and not real money
