Edited by: Howjo Kaymar on 14/09/2003 01:08:22 I was just wondering does anyone know at what level pirates begin to appear. I have done the training missions, and now want to venture out
Thanks

You will meet your first NPC pirates in 0,8 security sectors' belts and maybe blockading the gates.

Edited by: Naz Farooq on 14/09/2003 04:29:33 I am a newb as well and can give a few tips. In 0.8 space you run into 1k and 1.5k bounty pirates individually or in pairs (in my experience). In 0.6 space you run into up to 4 1k and 1.5k bounty pirates in a group, 2k's and 2.5k's individually or in pairs. I should also add that they are found in the asteroid belts, so make sure you go to a 0.8 system that has asteroid belts, or you will be disappointed.
My ship is a Slasher Minmatar frigate (about a step above the newbie frig) armed with two 200mm autocannons and typically firing tritanium sabot ammo. I have minimal flying and fighting skills. With this setup I have no worries fighting anything I've encountered in 0.8 space, but a single 2.5k pirate is about all I can handle (must run from pairs).
Hope this helps. Sure, everyone supports saving Einstein's brain, but when you put it in the body of a Great White Shark, suddenly you've "gone too far". |

As others have pointed out, you will not see asteroid belt pirates until .8 security. Interestingly enough, though, you can find weak pirate spawns (but not in asteroid belts) in .9 systems - these are meant as rewards to low-level agent missions.
From my experience, gate-hugging NPC pirates don't appear until .4 security.. of course, this is also the level when PC gate-hugging pirates may be encountered.

I was under the impression that 0.9 systems had pirates in the asteroid belts too - is that not the case then?

No - you're fine in 0.9 system asteroid belts. No pirate spawns till 0.8
