So according to the latest news, NPC corps are pulling out of Amarr space especially Tash-Murkon. Has anyone noticed stations closing down or disappearing?
It's fine and dandy to write content, but if it's not evident ingame, it's just window dressing.

Edited by: BlackVenom on 14/09/2003 11:21:09 Kinda agree on the part of the story. Iam totaly not interrested about '' where is the amarr ( hell i cant even remember who it was) '' We need action story's, Gallante Amarr Minmitar, Caldari in war with the supreme Joven empire or whatever. Huge Invasion in the empire space. New ships that make the gameplay far more interresting, I onley see thorax's Moa's and Rupture's in space. ( Bs not included =) ) I pay 12 dollars a month for lag and lag of gameplay. And no i wont leave the game yet but i will when it gets to boring to stay. Right now i wait to get a bs so maby i get a boost in ability's but i wonder if its enough for me to take this game serious, and worth the cost.

To be honest I don't even read the in-game news because it has little or no effect on the game at all.
At least none that I could see yet.
If they are going to write stories about what is happening in the Eve universe then there should be some visible evidence in-game to support the news being reported.
Otherwise its just a pretty story to be read.
There have been a few times where something actually happened in game that matched the news, like the Jove invasion.
However, most of the the time the news is just filler and nothing in game can be seen to match the news written. Would be nice to have some more interaction with the news and the actual game.

I'm all for Storyline and RP
But just saying that somethings happening doesn't do anything for 99% of Players It needs to feel like somethings happening. To become interested, we need to see it, or at least evidence of it ingame

Edited by: Nirvy on 14/09/2003 12:43:25 We need the scope back, that was the one time that i kept popping out of Eve to read it, espeically the stuff that was player driven.
Now its back to not having a clue whats going on anywhere and getting more and more bored by it.
I cant for the life of me figure out why they srite little stories, what ARE NOT happening in game? Surely we want to read about this Tash Murkon Exodos, and be able to fly over there and see 50 ships all leaving, and maybe have a pot shot at them, knowing they will be taking all their valuables with them. I agree. I expected to see several npc convoys (caldari) to be leaving caldari corp stations and leaving Amarr space. They wouldnt have to be hauling anything, their mere presence would have added content --------------------------- (c) Copyright Saladin, 2005. Heh, I want to be surrounded by TONS of NPC spacecraft and orbital equipment when I'm hanging near the caldari home planet. I want to have the feelnig that there are actually people living there! Why isn't there ANY civilian traffic int he universe at all? If you can't make interbus work for players, at least make em fly around as some kind of scenery for the time being.~
Do something about this emptyness, don't make me feel like I'm flying in some glass jar galaxy simluation on the coffee table of a mad alien scientist!

null It would be nice if they'd shut down some of the 5 billion npc stations and get on with programming in the player owned platforms...and wtf is up with the price of megacyte??

I kinda like the story, in the same way I enjoy the POTWs. It's roleplay. And they aren't hurting anyone who doesn't like them, do they?

Maybe that is part of the "market instability" that people are complaining they can't see in game?
Sorry, couldn't resist!

I agree. I see nothing happening at all.. had a discussion today with some fellow players..and they was all worked up about them stories...but i cant see what good they do. I feel that if this continues it will soon be so boring that the only time u wanna play the game its when u want to sleep.......

You are all WRONG WRONG WRONG!
This is an rpg (ROLE PLAYING game)
And your not playing along guys... stop buying or selling to Tash-Murkon and do NOT dock at foreign stations etc etc * -"You know, we play the "good guys" right? We kill pirates, griefers, retards and general subversive elements in the EVE-Community. To the rest, we are friendly and always prepared to help out. Peo |

Wrangler, the problem is I get the sense these stories are designed to pacify us that there is content, when there really isn't.
I can only roleplay so much if nothing is happening ingame to coincide with the news.

It's like the war between Amarr and Minmatar CCP seems to be trying to push. We ALL know that will never happen. How can you have a war between races with Concorde in the game?
You can't. And there's no way in hell CCP is going to allow any Minmatar to shoot any Amarr, and vice versa, without reprisal from Concorde.
I mean its like you want corporations to oblige each other like its sex or something. Pffft I would rather **** my enemy.- Rohann
Be careful out there. That other guy waiting in the queue for the gate MIGHT be a baby-munching frock-burner, YOU JUST DON'T KNOW!- Lallante |

I agree with that, Kinda like that book writer, I want to buy his book in game and read it. There were books in Morrowind you could pick right off the shelf and read. Knowing CCP if they were going to release a book or something, they would just post it on their webpage and have you browse to it. Where is the fun in that? ------------------

And why does CCP always ignor threads like this. Alota ppl quit because they feel frustrated that they don't ever listen. (you know forum hermits that think they are important, which means they spend more time here complianing then ingame playing)
But really, **** like this is sorta important. Why don't they just stop adding equipment and ships for a month. Like just forget about elite frigates and cloaking. Put them on a back burner. And work on the god damn NPCs. They are stupid right now. Dead. literally. NPCs are drones. Make them message random crap, say hi, have cops message you asking if you hualing anything ileagl at some gates, then scan you. Maybe hand out fines, ie tickets, sometimes instead of killing you. Maybe Navy ships could warp into a belt and help someone out once in a long ass time.
Right now with the stupid and lifelss NPCs its impossible for them to add any of this styory crap on the site into the game.

Ever think. just maybe. this is open the door for player driven market?. the stations will remain open. there is always a few hardy npc station managers. just the owners who are leaving. they can still charge you to use there station facilities. it is just that they will not be producing anything. so if people want to buy things tey will have to produce them thier own self.s smart move CCP. players want player driven market, give them an chance to have this My alt hates me, I don't know why. he won't even talk to me anymore |

POTWs are a very different beast. They only appear on the the website, explicitly in the "background" section. Background != Game Content. Background inspires content.
The news channel that appears on the billboards at this point has no defined purpose. It's most often used to talk OOC about downtime, it's sometimes used to talk IC about complete fiction that has no concrete effect on the game, and it's occasionally used to talk IC about actual in-game events (Ouria, the Amarr cabal).
How are we supposed to tell whether or not an "event" talked about in the billboard/news is "real" or just "color?" Right now, misuse of this resource is training the playerbase to treat anything that comes out of the billboard/news as ignorable fluff. The danger here is that billboards will become "the boy who cried 'content.'"
I recommend someone take a look at how Asheron's Call I uses their town criers. I imagined that the billboards would be used in that way. - - - -
I have measured and described the stars, their great and countless multitude. What man has seen their revolutions and entrances? Not even the angels see their number, yet I have recorded all their names.
- The Book of the Secrets of Enoch, Jewish Pseudepigrapha
We won't talk about how many cruisers I lost this weekend, nor how many nice railguns, or T2 enhancers. We're going to skip right over that. We're going to talk about my new Raven. It is like flying a small city, and the city's only export is missiles.

If you want actual news check out http://www.eveguardian.com/
It's essentially the same as Scope - informative, interesting, relevant and the only thing keeping me playing Eve.
CCPs own attempts at content have been and continue to be, quite frankly, pathetic. No signature... yet. |
