Top of the morning,
I have beeen asked to take over responsibility for running a POS. As I am a clueless noob about such things, i was wondering if there are any good guides or tools that anyone could recommend?
Many thanks
Don't Panic.

Why are they turning over ownership to a clueless noob ? (your words)

That's a very good question. I presume my task is to find fuel for the damn thing. My only prevoius interactions with POS's were weaping to and from the things during fleet fights.
Right then, lets have a go at this google thing of which you speak.
Edit. Good old Eve Uni - have found a guide that seems to be just the ticket. Don't Panic.

Look at the BPO for the fuel, research the required PI and ice products and fetch them one way or another. Since you have a POS you should be able to manufacture all of your own fuel with a little initial work.
Or come to me and I'll sell it to you :D

I hope someone's paying you at least. "CCP is changing policy, and has asked that we discontinue the bonus credit program after November 7th. So until then, enjoy a super-bonus of 1B Blink Credit for each 60-day GTC you buy!"

Step 1: Determine the fuel the POS needs to operate on. Generally speaking, caldari fuel blocks for caldari POS's, etc. Show info on the control tower if you can't tell by the towers name.
Step 2: Open the market and type fuel block in the search window. Buy fuel blocks for your tower, which will hold about 4 weeks worth of fuel when full. Small POS's use 10 blocks /hr, Mediums use 20 blocks / hr, and full sized POS's use 40 blocks / hr.
Step 3: Load your fuel blocks into a hauling ship. For optimal efficiency (i.e. 1 trip on a large POS tower), you'll want 140,000 m3 of storage space to haul all 4 weeks of fuel at once. Lucky for you, since most ships cannot handle this much, you'll get to make multiple trips!
Step 4: Fly your ship to the control tower and click on it. It has 2 bays, one for fuel and one for stront. Put the fuel in the fuel bay.
Repeat steps 2 through 4 until you hate POS's. |

Step 2.5 If the POS is in highsec, buy starbase charters to match the faction that owns the system that the POS is in and include those with the fuel |

All POS hold 700 hours of fuel in lowsec / nulsec / w-space, or 699 hours + 699 charters in hisec.
700 hours = 29 days 4 hours 699 hours = 29 days 3 hours
Example: hisec full fuel load
- Large: 40 fuel blocks / hour * 699 = 27960 fuel blocks
- Medium: 20 fuel blocks / hour * 699 = 13980 fuel blocks
- Small: 10 fuel blocks / hour * 699 = 6990 fuel blocks
It is unlikely that I've not posted on whatever question you have about POS, so search for posts by me with relevant keywords. |

Always have stront in the stront bay. Always.
And for the love of god never give out the role Starbase Configuration. Ever. Good news is the individual structure roles are by default set to that. So its hard to screw things up. Free Ripley Weaver! |

So it's a small Amarr tower in null. basically nothing in it except for mining some low-end moon-goo. So is there any way i can get this thing to generate some money? Reactions etc.
From what i have researched, i would need to upgrade it to a medium POS to be able to do that?
Don't Panic.

I'd suggest planning what you want to do with it before setting anything out. For reactions I think you need one of the larger station, probably should look up 'dickstar' set ups for in null, make the station too annoying to bother blowing up. Basically do the maths on the cost of running the station compared to the profit from the products. By all accounts the output should outweigh the cost of input goods and since you are in null you could always make your own fuel in a manufacturing array. Gather the required PI stuff locally and just mine/buy the required ice. |

You should have a link to the POS Planner: http://eve.1019.net/pos/index.php This lets you fiddle with "fits" to see if your tower can power what you want. I found that to mine goo, and do a simple reaction (say, sulfuric acid) took a medium tower at the smallest.
In null, a deathstar is usually a better arrangement than a dickstar. Generally, a dickstar is one full of ECM that breaks the locks on subcapitals (the idea is to make them so miserable they leave). In Null, caps are more common for bashing towers, and they're immune to ECM. A deathstar is generally a Minmatar tower studded with autocannons (they have a bonus to the rate of fire of projectiles (as well as range), so they can be pretty hazardous to attackers.

You can make fuel blocks in an ammunition assembly array. |

The moongoo itself may or may not be worth the POS fuel. A Harvester pulls 100 units / hour. The POS uses 10 fuel blocks per hour (although sov may reduce fuel usage this by 25%). Use EvE Central to check jita prices on your moongoo prices compared to your fuel costs and that will tell you how profitable it is. Some moongoo is extremely valuable, and some of it is almost worthless. People sometimes put harvesters on POSes simply to offset the POS fuel usage.
The production chain of moongoo looks something like this: 2x Moon Goo -> Processed Material (in a Simple Reactor Array) 2-4x Processed Material -- > Complex Materials (in a Complex Reactor Array)
xComplex Materials -> T2 Components (in a manufacturing facility at a station or POS array).
Note: With the introduction of Siphons, it is possible for someone to steal a portion of every Moon harvest. And hte newest siphons allow you to steal stuff from Reaction Arrays too. So be aware that your setup may be interfered with if left unguarded!
