I just had my 3rd pvp encounter. The other were pretty short and not nearly as exciting as this one. I could nearly hear my heart pounding during the fight, afterwards my hands were shaking. I'm still exhausted. Good fight.
So there i was in this .2 system in my Stabber, ratting while travelling to a new agent. Then i see a tasty target in local - an Amarr (in Matari space, probably hunting slaves!), about my age. He's flying a destroyer. "Hmm, cruiser against destroyer, a bit unfair maybe" i was thinking, oh the hybris. I decide i cannot let this chance slip away. So i check the market for scramblers or disruptors, find a disruptor in the neighboring system. Quickly fetch it and have to drop my shield booster - so no repairing devices... "I wont need it" i think and quickly return. To my delight he's still in space.
So i jump from belt to belt looking for him. I let those Angels pirates be, until i find 3 Arch angels, guarded by 2 normal Angels. Small guys, but i heard the tales from the 40 million ISK implants from elite pirates and i just cannot resist. Now these 5 Angels did quite some damage and as the battle draws to the end my armor is pretty low, maybe one third, maybe less. A few seconds before i blow up the last NPC, my target jumps in... Charges towards me, targets me.
Flee? And let him have my Arch Angel loot? Never!!!
I dont remember who actually shot first, but both are scrambling the other, i am webbing him while he is nossing me. Then i came up with a weird plan, panicked because of my low hitpoints, and maybe the reflexes of a Rifter pilot... "When in trouble, orbit as fast as possible". The chain of thought was, if i orbit him fast enough, the guns wont hit, but my missiles will. And yesterday i completed the skills for heavy missiles, muahahaha. So i set a tight orbit, 2km at a speed of about 600m/s. In retrospective it seems like complete madness - fast orbit in a cruiser against a destroyer.
It worked at the beginning, his shields fell quickly, and i think he wasnt doing much damage. Not sure though, its hard to process information with all the excitement. But he easily repaired any damage to his armor. So this goes on for a while, i watched it, confused if what is going on is good or bad for me... Then i decide, i must fly slower to let my autocannons do their business... But by now my cap was gone and to my horror, the ACs seem to require cap to shoot (strange). And shortly afterwards it ended.
And now in retrospective i wonder, why didnt i fly away from him, out of gun range, out of nos range, and let my missile do their work for a few minutes. Good question...
An expensive lesson that was... gotta buy new implants.

ehm well for your info 'arch' angels arent special, it only means they web or scramble (unless i have completly lost it...) 'Domination' angels is what you want ;)
Amusing read by the way =) ___________________________ Brutors Rule! My Eve-vids; Click. |

This was probably your first mistake. The scanner is your friend. Warping belt to belt just makes you easy to find, especially when you stop to rat. Even if he was ratting and not looking to take you out if you had warped in on him, just hopping belt to belt, he would either have a range advantage or he would get suspicious and warp to a safespot. As a pirate you want him to feel comfortable with you in the system.
Also you should have just left the loot. It's likely it was nowhere near worth the cost of your setup and implants.

Oops, good to know. Thanks.

wow
Shields and armor can be useful, even for a Stabber. Smartass.

I wanted to be found, and he was hunting players ;-). Both were out there as hunters. I became the prey in the end. But yeah, engaging the rats was dumb.

Yes, i should have repaired and afterwards look for him again. I thought Archangels were special...
But its a lesson learned in pvp. Young players and non-tech2-ships are quite rare in lowsec in my experience, so cant be to picky about fights. And the Stabber and setup should cost a mill or so. Before the fight i killed two npc battlecruisers which left me loot which should sell for about 3 million. I can just do that again... The implants i didnt buy for eternity - i had them for some weeks, they served me well. A good opportunity to drop the agent running and trade goods and go hunting again . Was getting bored anyways.

Stabber has 3 medslots so what was in the other slot that made you decide to drop your only means of defence in stead?

Get another cruiser and try again. Doesn't matter if you lose you will learn from your errors and not repeat them again Kaos Empire |

As for the AC's needing cap, yes. IIRC (can't be assed checking) regular T1 require 1 cap per shot, named require 0. _________________

I checked: The ********** ******** *beep* 425ers require 1 cap per shot, anything smaller doesnt. It was a bad time to find that out... ;-)

How on earth did you manage to lose a Stabber to a destroyer?
EDIT: He was shield tanking and using 425's, nvm

Ignore any smartass comments that are made to you. Of course you'll realise that you have things to improve on and there's no substitute for experience to learn how to deal with these things. If you have fun doing what you're doing and learn to handle situations better next time, then that is what half of eve is about. Glad you had a great time, even while losing a ship - pvp can get like that sometimes :)

Uhm no, i wasnt shield tanking. Dunno what you call shield tanking, but i dont call it shield tanking to engage without shield and shield booster. That's in the text btw. Reading helps, especially when you're flaming.

Thanks for the encouraging comments guys!
Later that night i had a second encounter that i actually won (didnt kill though - he was stabbed and ran away... then came back and ran again) so i'm quite satisfied.
I like the Stabber - its fast and a bit like a giant Rifter... i think i'll keep it for a while.

After a month you won't be losing fights like those.
Look in the Ships and Modules forum, there's some almighty good setups for Stabbers in there.
Follow the templates and train accordingly, you'll have a lot more success.

Sounds like you had a really good time there!
Learn from the mistakes you made and you'll have lots of fun in the months to come.
Keep up the good work!

Just got my first kill. After a very long search for targets i finally found an Omen ratting in a belt. "Probably taking a break from hunting slaves!" i thought and engaged.
Took it out quickly. It wasnt very heroic, the Omen was already damaged pretty badly from the fight against the npcs. Just like me when i was jumped by the destroyer.
I offered a ransom of 1 million ISK for the ship, but the Amarr didnt pay. The loot should sell for 1.5 million, so i'm satisfied.
