Fitted out an Apoc with smaller weapons (medium pulse), 2x 90% Webbies, and a Scram. . . decent tank in the bottom. Aligned for warp just in case something bigger jumped in to the system.
Fitted 1 mining laser, and took 5 small mining drones, with the rest of the drones in my bay being T2 lights.
Headed to the nearest 0.4 system, and found me a nice fat 'roid field.
Made it look REALLY good by turning on the 1 miner, and setting the 5 miner drones to work.
Then waited.
And waited . . . and waited . . . and waited . . . and waited.
<sigh>
After about 2 solid hours of reading a book at my computer desk, I finally see somebody pop in to local. He's got a -0.2 sec status, so I'm hoping I'll get lucky here.
Sure enough, about 45 seconds later, he warps in on top of me, and locks me down. About 10 seconds after that, he's orbiting at about 6km and a convo invite pops up.
I ignore it.
He's thinking I'm AFK maybe, so the 5 mining drones get popped in a few seconds. No idea WHY he did that.
I guess he gets bored, so he starts laying in to my ship. I'm waiting, waiting... he's chipping the shields away. Rifter pilot, not very many skills. Cant be that old of a character.
I answer the convo, and ask him, "Can I help you?"... he says "10 mil r your ship".
I send him one back. "10k or YOUR ship."
He replies "LOL u n00b 20m now".
2x Webbies, Scram, let them take effect, then fired all guns at once.
POP!
Sucker was quick, though. Pod warped out of there before I even came close to locking him.
A bit of a long wait, but the last minute was worth it. I really like that Apoc Trap.... might have to use it again.

And this is why you should always try to use the "look at" function to see if the ship really is carrying mining lasers!

IThe other day i fitted an AF up to gank, named it "Usul Faust's Covetor", and found a belt in a suitably busy system. After briefly pausing to spam local with 'miner no kill plz' i sat and waited.
...
and waited
...
and waited
...
eventually a battle cruiser warped in and i ran away. it was rubbish.
no skills, just luck.

hehe  nice one been thinking to do the same myself. Here's what i did.
i've been hunting Brutix in taranis yea and one othere guy snatch that kill from me. so i went to that same belt ejected from ship and waited it was 2 min when taranis came back. ( hmm a guy is being ransomed let's hop in ) hehe .. anyway he died fast hehe

LOL...not much. How much does 1 Miner I and a handful of the cheapest drones bring in in a couple of hours? Not even a 1/4 of a jetcan of Veldspar.
I probably barely paid for the drones he popped.
All in all, not too profitable, I'd guess.

I used to do a similar thing when I flew an Osprey for mining in high sec.
Instead of mining drones, I packed 5x light combat drones, a warp scram, and a webber.
When an ore thief showed up in a hauler (usually a Badger I ... oooh, scary), I waited. Then when they start moving towards my can, I say, "Can I help you?" I lock them when they get close, and as soon as they steal ore, I lock them down.
Usually I let them go for a million, or if I'm feeling really nasty, I just hold them there for the fifteen minutes of aggro time. If they get snooty, I let loose the hounds (my drones), and move whatever is left of their ship into my can.
Once, the idiot ore thief had his mommy get online and ask me to let him go. That had to be the highlight of her day.

Verry funny, tho I wouldn't take on a mining BS unless I was in a Cruiser at the Very least, you never know what hideous and evil things these carebears pack.
And I would especially never attack a Apoc that was quite clearly a trap. :D

Far too much patience. I usually run in to a system, see who's there, do a quick scan, if there's nothing i go. Cba to wait for things

But nice trap Sir; I got cought the same way myself , was belthunting in my thorax and scanned a megathron and a brutix towards a belt, but was not sure if I should agro them , but when I still scanned them in the same belt after 20 minutes I desided they must be mining , atleast the megathron, this and the fact it was 3-4 mont old players made me go agro on them.
Short story ...poof went my presius rax, they where not mining , just waiting for me
