Good fight(s)!
Although we were outnumbered all the time, it was cool... atleast some action.... my eyes are getting tired of watching bubbles....
But til next time.. Call someone else primary!
And they call me slow.... hey! Thats an insult! |

Good fights. Seemed the server was pretty lag free, too bad my comp wasnt ><. Looks like I'll need to upgrade something for future fun. Any recomendations on what best thing to upgrade would be would be great.
Current: AMD XP 1900+ 768MB DDR266 ATI Radeon 8500 64MB
1600x1200 desktop 1280x1024 eve
I get horrible lag on like clicking things. I'll click something, but it wont get highlighted for a good 10-30 seconds. And then I click target, and usually the target is dead or warped away by the time it would actually start to target :\. So I hold control and click like 5 random targets, and wait to see if anything ends up getting locked.
Is this bad vid card? Not enough or not fast enough ram? Not enough CPU power?
Anyway... GF to all involved.

Up-to-date video card drivers and/or smaller screen resolution would be good start. (something like 1152x864 resolution with 1200x900 desktop is quite nice) Try Omega drivers for your Radeon -- they're based on official drivers and tweaked for speed.
If that doesn't work, then afraid upgrade of gfx card might be in order :<

no just bad CPU mate. I had a 2000+ running at 1024*768 yesterday and while camping the gates I had bad framerates.
Today I got my hands in a used XP-M 2500+, OC'ed to 2800+ and the battles ran smoothly even with all those people involved.
next step: more ram
oh and btw, in EVE it's more the CPU power + ram that it counts mate.

numbers were fair (i think)
we've just been waiting here all week you had element of surprise
just glad to see some fighting pretty much lag free
1st engagement = we were outnumbered afaik. 2nd engagement = equal numbers (think we had 50 in gang and I saw another 50 enemies in EWOK before I bailed out) 3rd engagement = no idea, but I had the impression of us being a bit outnumbered afaik. But again i'm not sure. ----------------

id recommend to lower your resolution to 1024x768 and have a look into the performance thread, set advancedDevice=1 and interval option to intermediate, etc.
if you want to upgrade, your gfx card needs some love, but your cpu does, too. ram size is fine, if you are at updating and your going for something new, try to get some new board with ddr2 support for athlon64, cpu with 1mb+ l2 cache and with that take a gfx card that supports shader model 3.0 and your set quite well... that is for something like 1k, maybe more.
to topic: looks like great fight, couldnt be there :( life's a game - sometimes you loose, most times other win. |

Yeah, I think i've done all that... at least did before last couple re-installs, might need to do again, but it was simply awfull. I thought I had well above min specs.

In other words buy a new computer?
Thanks for input guys. Maybe I'll get a new CPU (which will prob require new mobo).
EDIT: Can I just turn off the damn video and just use overview? I just want to be able to click on stuff in overview. That's all.

"In other words buy a new computer? "
Well, if it helps any my computer is very similar to yours if not worse save for the gfx card (athlon 2k, 512 mb ram, used to have radeon 9000 card) ... and there was definitely no 30 sec delay while selecting things on the overview. Which makes me think it's the driver/too high resolution choking the card issue more than anything else, and in worst case swapping the gfx card should help ^^;;
that said, if you don't already then disabling the turret and effect gfx is quite a must in larger battles (ctrl+alt+shift+t, ctrl+alt+shift+e) ... turning on the LOD (level of detail) in game settings and zooming all way out might help you too as it's close to 'turning off video' you ask about, in effect...

There's also a memory buffer setting in the prefs.ini file in the C:\Path_to_Eve\cache directory. Default seting is buffersize=80. I have a Gig of ram and set mine to 512. |

hmm.. 1st of all.. switch off turret and effect animations ram should be ok with 768 cpu might be a bit low, so the gfx..
lower screen res, colordepth, turn off sound (gives me a 10+ fps increase), zoom out in fight
(the memsize setting in prefs.ini never gave me that much of an improvement at all, but you should try set intervall imediate aka turn off vsync)
if you dont want to spend bick bucks, get yourself a radeon 9800 pro or something like this. had one too before vacuumed off a transistor tho.. worked pretty well
somebody said ascn was outnumbered.. we dont want to discuss the numbers we agreed but i just took a look at our nice informative killboard.. (it counts all involved in all killmails)

Yeah it was cool, although I died pretty quickly both times I engaged (fights next to empire for quick ship swappage 4tw), but there was very little lag, everything activated without too much delay and the old heart was pounding in a way I havent felt since ATUK invaded 68FT about a year ago - big BS fleet battles are ace and make a nice change to small ship gankage.
Next time I create a character i will make the name "is secondary" just to imagine the FC screaming "primary is secondary, primary is secondary, why is no-one shooting you noobs, primary is secondary" :)

Yeah I dont think we were outnumbered except for the final encounter by the Torrinos gate when we had to bail.
We took a lot of losses but it was just a result of human nature, we had been there for 6 days when the op was supposed to be over on Sunday, pretty much everyone was bored and tired, half the people there were running second accounts with half an ear on TS and got caught with their pants down when G rolled fast, hard and organised (as they always do).
After the first engagement we did OK I thought but never really recovered from the first assault. A lesson learnt, it aint over til the at lady sings, and any fight you take something away from is worth the isk lost IMO

Why do people always have to start talking about damn numbers....its never gonna be even your never gonna agrea. Even would be 50 vs 50.. same ships both warp to neutral spot and desginated range. So many thing dictate whats even that it will never happen.
-choosing warp in point -wheres the hostiles are (are they in same place?) -people warpin into battle half way through -people sitting at a gate 120hours deciding to take a **** when g warps in -you can have 20 vs 20 if one side is all sniper tech 2 ammo 200km rng... the other is just normal 100km rng.. the is only winner as an example of what i mean.
It all effects this "even" engagement situation. G killed alot of ships was it even no, was it well pulled of tactically yes. Did G win this engagement for sure "numbers" wise.. but i dont see a single moaning thread on ascn forums they all had fun so did ascn win hell yes! Now someone please pm me on msn next time :) |

Yeah, I got the interval immediate, and the turret effects and effects turned off, and sound turned off, and the buffer thing set to half of my ran (384). Dunno, maybe I'll try new graphics drivers first, if that not help, try new mobo and cpu (course that means new ram too... and at that point i'm looking at whole new comp :\), and then a new vid card? Bah, so much money when I just want to upgrade it a little.

try this:
go to a shop, try to find out if they have old spare parts: NF2ultra400 boards, ati 9800 cards, 2500+ amd bartons and the like
you will get them cheap.
...ofc that it's just a minor upgrade and you will still be behind the evolution, but at least it is an improvement ----------------

The take down of bubbles was a bit haphazard and G seemed extremely well informed of what ASCN squads were doing, damn I'm glad we didn't have spies back when I played TFC
I had an alt in the 2nd engagement.. for all of 3 seconds! When the G fleet uncloaked the client froze up and then I saw a pod floating and then the inside of a station, thats what happens when a charactername starts with A!
