Ive noticed something while ive been plying EVE and that it seems missles are insanely overpowered when compared to Railguns, i mean, if you can somehow dictate the range in anything bigger than a cruiser then fair enough, but good luck at keeping your prey between 12-18km before you cant hit them, or hit them for under 30 where as missles are hitting between 1-'x'km and with the right skills and a couple of BCU your bringing the ROF down to about 4-5 seconds with a heavy launcher.
Is there something im missing, or are railguns lacking badly?
I stuck 2 150mm duals on a Ferox, trained up to level 3 in motion prediction, medium hybrids, the one the that allows you to track easier, 4 in gunnery and i had a cruiser in my optimum range and i hit it for 20-30, this is with an anti-matter charge i got about 2 shots off before it came out of my optimum range and i couldnt touch it. now is this supposed to happen? Or do my mediocre skills just not cut it for rails, where as if i were at the same level with missles id still hit 150+.

If you can't hit a cruiser inside your optimal with dual 150s I'm surprised, I hit them with 200mm and 250mm rails easily and my gunnery skills aren't so hot. Rail users flying the Ferox swear by 5x 250mm for mission running so apparently they don't suck. I prefer missiles for pve but that's mainly because I know what damage type to use vs my opponents.

not underpowered. actually rails erquire u to do more training more work to use them. missles on the other had. less training and easier to handle.
everyone has his choice of weapons. i prefer rails actually over missles. missles are just extra added damage for me. Dont say missle is ****. I love them on my cerb. But using them the right way rails can be pretty nice also.
its just a matter of having the right skills trained and play a bit with setups..

rails aren't that bad, they just take longer to train. I use 6x250T2s on my domi and they rip through things in no time

Rails with skills will outdamage my missiles. They take more training time but theyŚre more rewarding. --------

Go ask your fleetcommander (if you have one...) and ask him to fly your uber raven in a fleetbattle. Please report back with his answer...

Can we not have a missiles vs guns sticky that says Missiles take less skills and are better early on, Guns takes lots of skills and are viable in fleet battles.
I mean we get this once a week (and I posted one of them 3 months ago when I worked out guns get wtf pwned early on)

This topic has already been discussed in length. Missles are more effective for low SP charecters, but once you have high gunnery skills rails will outdamage heavy missles. --------------------------------------------- I hear Linux can cure cancer and raise your sperm count. - Dionysus Davinci
