Well BabyBlue beat me to the Lord Of The Flies reference and Neue mentioned some of what I was gonna say...let's see now....
I've always found it fascinating (in a rather sad way) that of all the video games people play the majority of them involve one person murdering another over and over again ad infinitum, ad nasuem. You could blame the Devs for creating the enviroment but y'know if people didn't want to play games like that no one would create them. So what is it about gamers, especially online gamers that they have such desire to see their fellow man/woman destroyed in some graphic representation? Maybe because the computer is a mere via and doesn't represent true human contact and thus leads to a certain....coldness. Perhaps it is because many socities suffer from the idea that in order to be a winner one must make a loser out of someone else, a train of thought born out of capitalism possibly.
It is a little disturbing to see so many people so attracted to evil and wrong doing especially in a game like EVE where there are so many other possibilities one could choose from. I myself have never felt the urge to harm the innocent and probably couldn't even if I really wanted to stretch out and experience a different persona online. My offline life/beliefs/ideologies is much about fighting oppression. That I bring with me to EVE. If anything EVE brings out the best sides of me, I must be a bit of an anomaly. Having said that of course I have no quams about defending myself or others, missles away.
I suppose I could respect that some wish to be pirates in this game, even welcome the added dynamic, if it was actual piracy rather than just "p0wnage of n00bs" and killboards, if pirates actually put themselves out as equal risk as their prey. Seems some control has to be handed down from CCP or else EVE could degenerate to be Counter Strike in space. It would be nice if gamers could better moderate their own actions but alas such is not the case.

The way I grew up my heroes were...heroes. So what I am curious to know is who are the champions of justice in EVE? Who are the ones who do good without charging a 1/2 billion ISK?

Indeed I have such designs but as I am new to EVE I have a snowball's chance in Hades to do anything effectively without some veteran support. I hear about anti-pirates, such Corps, for example but I've never encountered one. Perhaps they are all fighting wars in 0.0?

Perhaps it is the EVE game dynamics itself. The game seems to have a base in capitalism, it's all about the ISK. You can grief and be safe to a comfortable degree and well rewarded but to be on the side of law and justice well that just seems to be too darn expensive. Recently I made inquires as to hiring some help in taking out a couple of nasty pirates. I learned a lot about how mercs operate and the factors involved. The mercs factor in all possible costs including a possible drop in sec rating (and how interesting it is that those who assist in the attainment of justice should be penalized with a low sec rating ), then add a profitable fee. Which is agreeable, but even with a generous discount offered to me by one Corp I still found myself about 40 mil short. If I was a vet I could pay out the ISK with ease but then if I was a vet I could probably deal with the perps myself. So there's the rub.
I hear of people abandoning bounty hunting because it's just not worth the time and effort.
